dishing on my messy life

This is Thanksgiving Eve with a disability. It was originally the most beautiful swirled mocha cheesecake I'd ever made, a first time experiment with a gluten-free crust. I don't share that much, but this is the kind of nerve fail in my arms I'm fighting to hold at bay. I've been told that once I lose especially ulnar in my left arm, I won't be getting it back. I have destroyed my phone case dropping it so many times, despite taping it back together several times, but since my phone still brilliantly works, that is one helluva good phone case protecting my phone.

I remember sending you a story about a dream I had where I watched a life from beginning to end. Not knowing who it was, passing judgment on that life. Then finally being reconnected with my memories to find that I had judged myself. No matter how hard I tried to think up a reason of how this was unfair, I could not.

My cousin and I have very interesting convos, like no other person I've met. We've both had near death experiences, DTs from severe withdrawals, and close enough childhoods to be able to compare really deep personal meanings we've come away with.

This was the other half of that cheesecake. I've taken things out of the oven a million times, and I assumed this would go per usual, except this time my left hand couldn't make a grip at all in that position, and without warning (there was no pain), there she went, and my right hand was all that barely saved that 350 degree dish from burning me or careening across the kitchen.

I have always loved the debate over the existence of God, because it is unsolvable, even with logic. I was taught to debate from a very young age, and although it's taken me years to let go of using it as a cat and mouse toy on other people, I still love it inside my head. Sometimes I try every way I can to prove God cannot exist (for fun and games, I am not an atheist by birth, or even by nature, as I have found out), but physics keeps changing my footing. I used to be able to stop at If there is no life after death and this universe is all that there is and we are made of and from this universe and nothing else, then we should not be able to conceive or believe in anything or anyone else after life, yet so much of the world does.

I unfolded the saved bit and dug around taking a few bites, and it was pretty awesome cheesecake. I had marbled the lighter coffee swirls and darker chocolate swirls like art, and had used the only cream cheese I had to construct it. This was it. So yeah, I stood there at the stove and ate some after I walked off for 5 minutes on the pissy edge of tears. I'm not very good at self pity and why me, though, so it didn't take long to turn into a pig.

We are learning there is so much more to this universe that I have to keep tacking on provisional statements. For example, the Ancient Alien theories suggest that humans were part of a long galactic history of DNA experimentation, with growing evidence to support that. If aliens were posing as or mistaken as gods and could bring humans back to life via resuscitation, naturally this could be jumbled into a mistaken afterlife concoction. Like that. I allow for side jaunts into all kinds of logic that would still support my main supposition even though the side jaunts are questionably- questionable...

@bonenado was awesome and cleaned up the mess after it cooled. You can see I'm really hard on my oven, lots of broiling and spattering, but oh so yum. He got in there and spiffed it up while I stood off to the side sampling the other half of the mess. We were making crazy funny jokes and laughing our heads off. He always saves my days.

Anyway, over a long time I'm kinda sifting down to a couple of conclusions. There is no logic for the fail we feel over broken relationships at death after decades of not fixing them, and there is no logic for dreams like my cousin shared with me about the kind of life review judging we dread. Notice that both these things are very strictly subjective and usually unexpected. We question these things. We don't know why they happen, and we see nothing in this universe around us, even incorporating the latest physics, that allows or explains why we feel sad and guilty when everything else is stripped away and we are left standing alone before God, as it were. And it's not even that God is the vindictive one. We are the ones who recognize we f*d up. We are the ones who, at the very end of things when time has run out and despite all the other wishes and dreams and regrets we ever had, judge ourselves based on the deeds we did while we were here.

Nothing else.

This was Thanksgiving morning. Right hand this time, grip completely relaxed without warning after cracking the egg for scrambled eggs. I've worked very hard for years on learning to hold my hands differently, using both hands together, standing over areas so I'll stop dropping bottles full of tiny pills all over the floor, plus 4 years of physical therapy. This is life. I need assistance with so many things. When a handicap button to a heavy door doesn't work, I can't get into a building. It's that simple. I'm sharing this part of my life to help some of you understand the challenges holidays can be for people you know but don't really think about. Get up and help people do their dishes after they've cooked for you. If it's a drag for you to clean, imagine the drag it was for them creating the mess and then having to clean up after you. From The benevolent God of the funny papers

Throughout his life, Schulz constructed himself as the put-upon target of others' ridicule or indifference, from schoolyard bullying to the plaint, repeated well into old age, that no one loved him. Michaelis identifies the artist's "lifetime inclination to conceal hurt and the harsher emotions that follow on it, the better to brood upon them"; but as he also shows, that hurt was often illusory, the betrayal a figment: no one else recalls the bullying, and Schulz was indeed loved deeply and well by many. Yet, perhaps due to the premature loss of his mother, he nursed forever the symbolic wound of emotional and social rejection. "Arrested, bitter," Michaelis writes, "he spent a startling amount of time over nearly 60 years polishing a cameo of boyish helplessness and frustration." It's a puzzle worth puzzling over: the stunted boy's resentment of a cold, motherless world takes perfect creative form in the hopeful, searching Charlie Brown.

Getting ready for holidays in Mirkwood.

My biggest fail is an auto anger response that flares up over way too many triggers, clear back to childhood. The resulting fallout from that is sadness and depression. I'm trying very hard to change that response. Life is way too short and we have way too much to lose for me to hang onto being petty and hurt. Since so much of this response is both genetic and trained into me from birth (and I would argue might even be the survival tactic that helped me make it this far), it's hard retraining my brain to let go of it. Feeling sorry for myself or being angry about something I have no control over isn't useful. It's actually even wasteful of resources and drains me.

I wish these could stay up all year.

I think the important thing is, now that I recognize I can attempt to control some of this emotional chaos within me, that I apply it before it's too late and I regret later that I didn't try. At the end I want to be able to say I'm glad I was here, I loved my people, and I think I did ok, even if it's illogical and there really is no God or life after death. That doesn't change that I want there to be, and that I want to go on learning and doing and being in a variety of new ways. I definitely don't want to spend my deathbed moments feeling sad or disappointed in myself because I dismissed the important stuff while I had the chance.

I can't go out on sappy. Here you go.

gimme

Ah-HA! My scales are lying to me! Thought I'd step off and step back on, totes got a whole different number. Guess it's time to cave and get a new one. Maybe we're in battery death or something.

I remember when I brought this one home, everyone was ticked that it added 5 pounds. photo 17happyrock.gif

Not saying it's boring now, but I fell asleep during The Walking Dead last night and missed the live tweet. ~sorrynotsorry~ We'd had such a big day, between @bonenado finally getting a deer, putting the first of the lights up, and getting a bunch of vacuuming and other cleaning done. Here, I'll toss a couple of pix here, heads up for the deer pic.

Ok, keep scrolling so it's off your screen.

WE'RE CLEAR NOW.

Missouri has been back and forth on button bucks (partly in response to some kind of deer disease that periodically sweeps across the U.S. and affects hunting regulations because population controls), but it's still legal and hard to tell from a doe in this level of bracken, even through a scope.

I've about decided I've got a very sophisticated pingback bot looking for a way into Pinky blog. This particular country is very unusual for bot patrols on my blogs, and the last time I had a bot like this was from the Ukraine and it turned out to be an app probing for a hack entry. The only thing I can think of that connects me to France, in a rather strong way actually, is my paper.li newspaper (Pinky Press Review on twitter, auto payments go to a corporate street address in France). They made a big change a few weeks back, restructured how manual controls over content works (I don't like it), and for some reason that change obliterated the embed coding for my blog here, so I just took it out. SO. I'm this close to concluding that they've picked up internet VD of some kind since this big change that is probably ping swarming all their clients now. It started within the last 2 weeks, the same posts keep getting hit over and over like rote every so many hours, and I'm wondering if it's activating in sync with a staff member logging in. The time zone kind of corroborates.

I've been thinking about dropping paper.li for awhile. Maybe it's time to just let it go. I had a good run with it, it was fun to a point, but I can't say I'll look back that fondly on all the content wrangling I kept having to drag through. Maybe I'll let the Pinky Press Review run up through the holidays, and then start 2017 fresh without it.

I just wanna say I have NEVER been bot swarmed in any fashion by SyfyDesigns, and I have links back to Pinky blog and Lexxperience all over that place. Myke has been really tight with his spam controls, and I sincerely appreciate it.

TODAY. Continue the excavation I started in my kitchen yesterday, money and calendar sync, finish up laundry, catch up the dishes, and hopefully keep working on my list thingy. I've been scattered off and on, but haven't been THIS scattered since I went public again. Srsly need to get on the scattered thing with the list thing.

TOMORROW. Physical therapy, psyche guy, and Hy-Vee for CHEESE. I have looked high and low for several different reserve aged cheeses I enjoy, not finding them *anywhere*. The only place left to look now is Hy-Vee. I live in a strange area, between a super church and lots of other churches and a gathering of wealthy families in our touristy-manufacturing-giant retail metro spread and several big feeding the homeless type operations, stores get wiped out very quickly and regularly for upcoming par-tays and soirees, and this is not the first major hunt I've gone on before holidays. And if Hy-Vee is also wiped out, I'll be looking into an actual cheese store, but I know from experience that doesn't always get me the cheese I want. Had a long talk with a cheese guy one year about how this area really isn't into the finer cheeses, and I was like dude, you run a cheese store, get this cheese in and FIND OUT. A good imported aged cheese lasts awhile, it's not like he's going to lose perishable inventory right away.

Kinda reminds me of the year I looked for saffron *everywhere*. We have it now, but a few years back, no one knew what I was even talking about. I was like hellooooo, we live in a high import area, I can find things from Asia many Americans wouldn't even know exist except for food shows, Indian-American professors and doctors abound here, how can you not know what saffron is??? Meanwhile, I could get cactus, tomatillos, and purple cauliflower...

Anyway. Cheese irk. All I ask for is an aged gouda. I was actually able to find it for awhile. It's gone again. Wah and grrrr. Ok, I ask for other cheeses, too, but you know what I mean. No, I don't want your smoked gouda. Who is wiping out all the good cheeeeeeeese???? STOP THAT.

Aged. Gouda. Gimme.

a mole musical with a creepy ice cream bunny and Santa getting too hawt, wait....

Blurbs. Today through the years.

2007- no title

Reading through the news this morning and ran into this funny statistic on a blogger site comparing the cost of oil per barrel to other liquids.

"Whiskas: a milk specially made for lactose-intolerant cats sells for $1.29 for a 6.75 oz box. A barrel would retail for $1,027."

Second post that year.

It hit right at noon on the dot here at my house.  Freezing rain.  Twinkles called on her way back to her place from college and said it was really bad up there, sleet and rain and snow mix.  Radio is already reporting dozens of wrecks.

Poor Jaizzy was huddled under the deck waiting for me, and acted thrilled when I stepped out the door.  Wasn't crazy about the camera...

I talked to her while she followed me down to her house, boy was she glad to get back in there.  She acted like her feet were about to freeze off, and even though the bare patches are starting to fluff up, I'm sure she still feels a bit of the wind.

I'm huddled back in my house, too.    Maybe I can snuggle up and get a nap in, like a bear in a cave.

2008- no post on this day because I was busy elfing Scott's coworkers, but this one two days before- "the edge of the coin, xmas lights"

Crappy pix of lights up.  My camera has 'night vision', so I can't get it to show you how we see it with our own eyes.  It was really dark out, not light, as you see in some of these, but the only way to make it dark was to use the flash, which obliterated how the lights really looked.  I'm gonna have to dig the book out and see what I can do about that.

I have no idea where the red dots across the side of the house came from.  Like I said, it was pitch black, I wasn't using a flash, and I never saw those for 'real'.  Makes you wonder about infrared reflections we don't see or something.

The freakiest thing was that this was taken in pitch blackness, and I couldn't even see where Scott was, had no idea he was even in the picture, yet you can clearly see the color of his jeans, his hands, etc.  Makes you wonder how much animals can see when their eyes are made to see in the dark.  Makes you wonder how truly blind we humans are.

And this is 2 days after- "the weekly fluff"

Houston, we have a problem.

At night with the flash.

Without the flash.

We left it dangling for two days like that.  Thought you'd appreciate that one, Sploit.

Whew, narrowly averted Scott having to trank me and drag me out into the woods.  After I got all freaky about his totally ADD impulse to get the last red (apple wreath) votive candle out of the closet and randomly just set it any old where without mentioning it or lighting it and then him trying to tell me we were on the same brain wave when I went looking for it and finding it had totally disappeared for no reason (my obsession with knowing where something is and his impulse to move it randomly around the house is FAR from being on the same brain wave, and not communicating at all about it further away still, but he doesn't get *that* part), I realized I had to get us both on track with something or we were going to have a *very* bad day together.

So in a desperate attempt to 'make up' in the hopeless face of me wanting to rip his skin off with my short nails and him feeling indignant that I'm Mr. Spock on an acid trip, (and remembering that all our worst days have somehow magically resolved through rabid angry housecleaning together), I asked him if he'd be willing to clean the bathroom floors if I cleaned the rest of the bathrooms.

I hit that happy button perfectly.  That guy is going to town.  He's got the vacuum out dusting things all over the house, cleaning out drawers off the beaten path, and when he eventually gets to the bathroom floors, I have stamped my approval on him unnecessarily dragging out a bucket of water and the Armstrong, because there is nothing this man loves more than being mindlessly busy with a lot of noise going and big odory powerful cleaners, and the more unnecessary work involved, the better.  I've been done with the bathrooms for a half hour already, and I even deep cleaned what I was doing.  Now I've got the cornish hen in the pot with a bunch of herbs and my onion-carrot-celery combo, and the house is smelling quite lovely between that, the candle, and the cleaners.  And I have a pine tealight going in the master bathroom.

Skip a bunch of stuff.

Hanging by my fingertips for the last hour on the fantasy football scoreboard.  It's not helping that I caught Scott red handed last Thursday add/dropping my players around without telling me.  I was having a great season, he got excited and jumped in last week and screwed me, then thought he could fix me back up this week and just plain took over my team, and now he's pacing like a nervous wreck because I've barely kept up neck and neck with my opponent, and he just passed me, and there are only a couple of minutes left in all the games.  So he's feeling guilty that he screwed me again...

@ 6 p.m.

Game over.  I lost.  I asked Scott if he learned his lesson.  He said yes.  I said Good, because it would be a shame if I had to change my password behind your back...
So depending on the other chick in the league, I *might* still be in the playoffs if she loses tonight.  Really iffy.

Scott's on the couch watching the Brothers Grimm thing on SciFi and feeling crummy and guilty.  Guess I should go hang out with him so he'll know I don't have a stone knife hidden on my person.

2009- "knowledge is power"

Watched "Watchmen" on PPV this morning.  Weird, riveting enough to actually hold my attention, somewhat ridiculous to the point of wondering how in the world they managed to get the thing filmed and whether they lost any money on it, and why in the world they wasted so much unnecessary time in some scenes and compressed so much latent info in others.  My fave was Rorschach, my second fave was Dr. Manhattan.  On a Mystery Men scale of entertainment, though, I give it just a two.  I will probably never, ever watch it again.  I was really glad to find out online that Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise never got the chance to make it worse with their presence.

2010- "time keeps on falling on banana peels into the future"

Endo doc said my primary care dr. hadn't checked my thyroid in over a year before she even left.  That means it was about 2 years ago that I started asking her if I could raise the dose, and she kept telling me the blood work was fine until I finally talked her into letting me see this guy a few months later and he verified what I was saying, then she rechecked about 6 weeks after I saw him.  He couldn't believe all the other blood work she was doing after that and never once checked my TSH again, even when I had asked about it.  Told this guy I'd rather bypass the other doctors from now on and let him do my yearly thyroid check, he said ok.  He also said in all his years, he's known of only one other doctor completely closing down their practice and just leaving all his patients like that.  It's just basically unheard of.  Keep getting the feeling from the clinic doctors that they have no respect for that.  He asked if I knew why she did that, and I told him I thought it was the only way she could escape from the Nurse of the Corn running the office.  Told him a few things, and he asked for her name, said he sure wouldn't want to accidentally hire her.

2011 "Feliz Festivus"

Hit me awhile ago that maybe it's not about me being the target. Occurred to me that I'm given the opportunity every time I get a call to turn it into something evil, or at the very least say something rude or mean. ... All these years, all these opportunities, maybe it's about getting me to cave in to my anger with them, not about them ruining my day. No matter how black my day gets or how fast and completely I crumble, I have never used a scathing word to any of Scott's family.

That kinda blew me away. Maybe it's not about shooting me down with their nidiocy, but about me not destroying them back at every opportunity. I can only imagine the living hell Scott's life would have been if I had. So many people do that, get into fights and stuff.

2012 "we have our own manhunt now, falalalala"

Man leads Taney County authorities on chase (link removed) (details replaced by xxx for privacy)

They've already got some of the info wrong in that, it's supposed to be Circle, not Court, and 6 miles away would be xxx or xxx, not xxx, and on tv they're saying he followed xxx Creek, but the creek that cuts through here is xxx Creek.  (They might correct it next time they update the page.) The only thing they're getting right is xxx and xxx, wow.  Anyway, Scott and I think this guy is related to someone in one of the rich houses over there, and probably hunts around here and knows the woods real good.  I'm almost betting someone is hiding him in a house.  It's like xxx and xxx, their last name is different from family around here, it's not your first thought to check a house with a different last name.  Anyway, they've got bloodhounds and those big rifles, gonna be really interesting to see if they've caught him by the noon news.

(they never caught him)

2013- Nothing on this day, but this was close by.

I bet I've written several million words just in the last 5 years. (the rest is too sad)

2014- Nothing on this day, but this public post was the day after. Click the title to see it.

The Elfnado Christmas Countdown

2015

That's today! I think my brain slipped out in the night, I've been pretty deep in and barely talking all day. I think I'm just doing this for busy work. Scott's outside doing last month's yard work. In years past we have pretty nasty weather by now, today is pretty gorgeous for winter. Made an awesome thick rich enchilada soup, and I'm this close to curling up in a ball and hibernating. I just don't sleep in after #latenightmovie like some of the others do. I was still bouncing up at 4 a.m. for coffee. You can click these to get to the tweets and then click the pix to make them bigger if you want to read what people were saying in chat. I can't think of a finer bunch of people I'd want to ruin my brain with. It's like an acid trip without acid, the movie was that bad.

You know the rest of the month I'll be thinking of the Ice Cream Bunny. Speaking of Bunnies, we had one over here last night.

Yep, Christmas is finally on at my house. We're keeping it super simple.

"I waft my musk in your general direction."

So, yeah, the big fight. I know some of you are waiting for what the crap after I burned a few eyeballs the other day.

1- I told you I'm mean.

2- I kept warning and warning that cork was set to pop.

3- I always win.

Srsly, it's all good. I've been wondering for 3 1/2 years when someone would finally trigger me, and we had bets riding on this one in my house.

I gave my kids coal one year. Ok, it was bubblegum made to look like coal. Pretty nasty. photo smileysanta.gif

Anyway, water under the bridge. I don't hate anyone.

I started off last December pretty loopy after the Thanksgiving holiday, and between not even being a drinker and hardly any meds in my life at all anymore, that was pure brain drain.

Anyway, I'm starting off this December going full force, dealing with internet laws and stuff, actually got a Christmas box mailed out yesterday (some years in the past I didn't even do cards, and my own kids got stuff late), my house is cleaner right now than it's been in the last two years, no one has died this year so far (that's a biggie), and I actually attempted listening to Christmas music.

My day today is all about Mantrid and a self spa day. That's right, Mantrid in a jar is inspiring me to get all over my bodyscaping (super awesome black light bodyscape site) like Caitlyn (I had a Bruce Jenner Wheaties box for a long time, guys). And cracking up on the Graham Norton youtube channel.

the folly of office work during the holiday slide

I told my staff yesterday that they could decorate their work stations for the holidays, on the proviso that they 1- do a 30 minute workout later (we are a health-conscious work force), and 2- actually do some real work. Yeah, right.

aspienado's work station
You know how that goes, office slump after a grueling Monday back after a big holiday weekend where people were moving furniture in the rain and whatevs. Hey, their lives are their problemos, but once in awhile ya gotta cut your people some slack, right? I think our slack turned into party and went outa control.

bluejacky just wants New Year's to get here
Anyway, they all wanna show off their screen savers, so bear with me while I update our website with our holiday cheer.

Janika is the drag in the office.
Don't tell her I said that.
I've been invited by a Russian Lexx fan to discuss one of my articles. In Russian. I'll hafta think about it. What's awesome is that my content is being heavily discussed (as I can see through google translate) as a legitimate look at how the film industry captures and uses political process along with personal agenda to involve the viewer, if I'm correctly summarizing some of the finer points.

aspienado butted back in. That says "Hasta la vista, meatbag!"
Imagine working with this person every day.
Yeah, not even a holiday theme.
I've mentioned my newer friends don't know who I am. I am translated and quoted all over the world. It actually is a really big deal that I'm finding a way to be an ASD person living out loud and managing to keep all my friends. People know me.

Yablo's work station.
I caught Yablo passing around a bottle of real vanilla to spike the hot chocolate protein shakes with.
I know some of you still can't imagine it, but I am contacted on a fairly regular basis by people from all over the world, some of them very deep lurkers, some very famous, mostly fans from one fandom or another, so when I kind of lose it over a handful of people continually trying to private message me every little bit like we're buds and I've got time to drop everything and yap about your day one on one (Pond of Death stuff), it's because I truly am overwhelmed and need staff. I keep saying I need staff.

And y'all know this is Pinky's work station. Lotta pink splat there.
Through all this, I remain rogue, an independent review writer not umbrellaed under nor paid by a host network. All the writing I do online is for free. I even pay for some of my blogs out of pocket and never ask for donations or sell ad space. I don't monetize. Because of this, I don't show up on the radar as being a 'serious' blogger, although, aside from the continual churn of content curation, I am the most quoted and translated writer/reviewer I know.

The boss of me walking around with the coolest mug. Show off.
I found this mug in my local HyVee floral but it was the only one and I can't find more online.

We've even got an office game going- guess how many candy canes are in the container. No, I have no clue. I just stuffed them in there. My staff will put their guesses into a bowl and we'll find out later who wins. They all wanna know what the prize is. Prize? What prize? Hmmm....

click to shop for Bob's candy canes
So. An invitation to jump into a serious discussion of my own work through translation software. Extremely flattering. A little daunting. Something I'd very much like to do, but do I have the time. I got up after 5 hours of sleep to finish a live tweet review that has already gotten just shy of 500 views in the 12 hours since I tweeted the link to the first panel, over 6200 views on that thread since the show started back up in October. In the meantime, Pinky Stuff still outranks The Walking Dead for total views on SyfyDesigns by 10,600 views, and my original  zombies post there is over 12,500 now. I'm not even going to mention the Lexx views, I about fell outa my chair last night when I saw them. Is it ok if I keep staring in disbelief at this one? This is your brain on JJ Abrams (I did repent later.)

THIS is how you decorate a tree.
Imagine what I could do if I had more than imaginary staff.

Lotta magic going on out there.
I have a unique angle. As long as I stay fairly rogue, I don't get drowned out in other people's stuff. Because I don't get paid, I make my own motivation. Being driven with obsession is a guilty pleasure. I love what I'm doing even when no one sees it, as evidenced by years of private blogs.

I'm think I'm getting a new kid this year for Christmas.
Santa knew we needed another one. =)
Anyway, I've got to run into town again today.

Wearing your enemies. Pinky approves.
Always busy, well, except when we decorate the office, and then we work overtime. Yeah, they're all sorry now that they never came back after lunch. Gonna be a long day today.

So when I say a fandom jumps every time I whisper 'her', it's real.
