my whale

I haven't been touching base very well this month, have I?
  • My sleep doctor gave me permission to take breaks from my CPAP when allergies make my face puffy.
  • I've joined the millions in athletic shoe fail who suffer muscle rupture. Mine was tiny and under the inner ankle. Being careful now.
  • No more awesome one week shags just before a whole summer of ponytail fail. Really feeling that one.
My time orientation kinda feels worse this year. Had the date wrong on the eclipse, despite reminders up in my face at every turn. Threw a bag of chips away that expired Nov. 2017 and later realized it's not 2018 yet. Have reworked all kinds of scheduling multiple times. August is suddenly gone, too.

I think part of the morefail around me is because I'm a little deeper in the writing again. That and being on a much stricter Bunny schedule now. After school we start Papa's supper. Last night was hamburger helper. She's four, she can learn how food happens. I was cooking from scratch by seven. Today we will construct a pie with those refrigerator rolled up crusts and a bag of apples. Easy peasy.

Still doing the atlas therapy thing. Not getting worse, but the challenge of real life on top of it has been... challenging. There has been no stopping and resting, no real recovery time, no coddling of the nerve reverb. And I don't have time to stop and think about it.

Had a flashback this week. I really do miss this era of my life sometimes.

fear and loathing

So auties freaking out about MIT, didn't hear you outcrying when China purposely created autistic monkeys to inflict experimentation on. I've been saying for years that we're on the brink of the nastiest form of human genocide we've ever seen. I've stopped freaking out. Also, all you Trump haters so obsessed with the guy that you're saturating everyone around you with pix of his face- ever thought that you're part of the indoctrination process? Really tired of miles of his face in my feeds.

Here's the thing. When you obsess about something, anything, your brain works overtime on something you fear or loathe, and that prevents you from truly enjoying something else. It's one thing to be "concerned", it's another to be so obsessed that your feeds are crammed with whatever, or that you even create artwork around it. *wow*

I used to worry that I was the messed up one. I'm fine. Some of the rest of you probably need to look into psychoneuroimmunology and mindfulness.

Moving on. Reaching a level of relief as I'm nearing the original dose goal. The nasty withdrawal headaches seem to be lessening, I'm kind of starting to sleep again, and I actually held it together going into town yesterday for an equipment update and a lengthy grocery list.

Anyway, I am a proponent of neurodiversity.

"To me, neurodiversity is the idea that neurological differences like autism and ADHD are the result of normal, natural variation in the human genome. This represents new and fundamentally different way of looking at conditions that were traditionally pathologized; it’s a viewpoint that is not universally accepted though it is increasingly supported by science. That science suggests conditions like autism have a stable prevalence in human society as far back as we can measure. We are realizing that autism, ADHD, and other conditions emerge through a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental interaction; they are not the result of disease or injury."

This proponency started long before the autism witch hunt. I was shocked at the ADHD witch hunt decades ago. I couldn't believe how many parents could get so selfishly vicious over something so innocuous as children not being posable dolls, boiled down. I learned a long time ago in anthropology that 10% of ANY population is considered a normal part of distribution, and even necessary to the health of the whole.

There are people out there who want you to hate. They want you to fear and loathe. Why? Because they get money for it. The more freaking out and opinionating you do, the more monetizing someone else gets.

Zoom out and look at bigger pictures. Look at what is really going on. Fear and loathing is the most lucrative machinistic process on this planet, and every time you pass on your auto-fear and auto-loathe, you are doing their dirty work for them.

George Orwell didn't foresee how the proletarians would be used by social media.

let those dastardly cosmic rays in, guys

:edit: 9-4-17 me and photobucket wrestling after a big update and blogger said NO. I guess I lost.

All right, all right, the last one amounted to click bait, I get it. Here you go, my actual thoughts-

photo reallyhot.gif cosmic rays are getting us because solar flares are in their decline cycle

photo littlelexxlogo.png I renewed LittleLexx.net registration and domain for another year, details here

photo dryer.gif I am stripping my house this week for deep cleaning

General stumbling through sorting and organizing.

Kinda like this. Yes, I made this one back in my Bluejacky days. :edit: That pattern is my master bathroom floor linoleum, originally black and gray, colorized to blue.

Ok, this was better click bait, I hope. At least you know I did more than wake up this morning. Here you go, get your move on.

"I waft my musk in your general direction."

So, yeah, the big fight. I know some of you are waiting for what the crap after I burned a few eyeballs the other day.

1- I told you I'm mean.

2- I kept warning and warning that cork was set to pop.

3- I always win.

Srsly, it's all good. I've been wondering for 3 1/2 years when someone would finally trigger me, and we had bets riding on this one in my house.

I gave my kids coal one year. Ok, it was bubblegum made to look like coal. Pretty nasty. photo smileysanta.gif

Anyway, water under the bridge. I don't hate anyone.

I started off last December pretty loopy after the Thanksgiving holiday, and between not even being a drinker and hardly any meds in my life at all anymore, that was pure brain drain.

Anyway, I'm starting off this December going full force, dealing with internet laws and stuff, actually got a Christmas box mailed out yesterday (some years in the past I didn't even do cards, and my own kids got stuff late), my house is cleaner right now than it's been in the last two years, no one has died this year so far (that's a biggie), and I actually attempted listening to Christmas music.

My day today is all about Mantrid and a self spa day. That's right, Mantrid in a jar is inspiring me to get all over my bodyscaping (super awesome black light bodyscape site) like Caitlyn (I had a Bruce Jenner Wheaties box for a long time, guys). And cracking up on the Graham Norton youtube channel.

The Girl Who Lived

From my Fear and Loathing collection, a wallpaper made by yours truly many years ago.
Clicks to my photobucket where you can download original size.
Feel free to hotlink and use my bandwidth.
Happy Holidays.
Timehop, lol.

Though I rarely whine on twitter, yea verily, I got caught and was duly admonished for this tweet complaining that I couldn't find a shark ornament while I was running errands around town. Steve lives by the ocean and immediately hooked me up with online shopping. Click this snip for awesome shark ornament acquisition opportunities.

So if I had that kind of money, I'd make a shark-only Christmas tree hung upside down from the ceiling. Get it? Treenado. Or whatever. Sharknado Christmas tree. K, was worth a try. Somebody go do that, I can't find any online, which means no one is doing it. IT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

Today is a GOOD day for me and my loved ones, no matter what else happens because of the girl who lived. Yes, I love saying that because of Doctor Who, plus Amy had red hair, too.

That title has a double meaning for us. When I wrote that post a couple of years ago about the girl who lived, it was a 'suicide post' for people with depression. I wasn't very good at writing about it, but that was the first peek that friends got online at something very real ongoing on in my life, although I didn't say at the time exactly what. Anyway, 12-1-11 is the day she was plowed really hard in a crosswalk after work and we nearly lost her, and even though things are still really hard for her, she's still with us, and because she's still here, so is another little guy in this world. He will be one in January.

This was his mommy a little over 8 years ago, originally uploaded to youtube on March 12, 2007. This video got me through so much of my own stuff, I can't even tell ya. This kid is my hero. She's been through way more than I ever have, and so terribly young through it all, and she's still hanging in there.

the winds of change, or #kissmybatch

Time for some changes.

Six months ago I wrote faith in humanity. I very seriously meant every word I wrote in that post. I won't bore you with redundancy.

Facebook allows me to unfollow without unfriending so that things don't pop up and surprise me in feeds. Bless them for that. I'm not going to tell anyone what they can or can't do on their own timelines and blogs and whatevs, but I've said over and over I suck as a friend. Y'all can share all the spiders and mutilated pets and ground up baby burgers and freaked out vehement hate you want, but I can't wade through that to get to the one or two little updates about actual stuff in your real life. I'm sorry I'm not that strong, but I'm just not, so if I seem distant, it's probably because I can't see what's happening.

Twitter doesn't have a stay friends but unfollow option because the core of twitter relies on a tagging system, which makes muting someone a joke. I want to see some of the things I'm tagged in, but I also want to avoid some of the things I'm group tagged in coming in on the same stream. Alas, muting doesn't take care of this problem at all.

It would seem my only choice in this kind of situation is to block someone, because simply unfriending them doesn't stop the tag from getting through into my notifications. However, blocking doesn't work, either, if someone uses multiple accounts or the rest of the group keeps tagging me. I've tried everything on twitter, including spending hours of time over two years fine tuning list feeds and learning every trick out there, and I don't know what else to do.

What I'd really love to see happen on twitter is a priority notification feed, where I could filter notifications from people I don't want to miss out from the whole splat of incoming tag notifications. (The fave people option they tested last year also doesn't take care of the notification problem.) I've got hootsuite set up for a couple of things, but I'm not seeing a way to prioritize tags there, either. I could set hootsuite to stream fave people so I'd catch all their notifications there, but then I'd have to wade through every single thing at least 50 people tweet just to see what I'm tagged in, again, doesn't solve the problem. With facebook, I can elect to stop receiving notifications when I'm tired of a convo thread, but with twitter I'm stuck with continual notifications as long as the convo keeps going, even if I never respond, just because I am tagged in it.

What would Wil Wheaton do? Simply ignore and not respond, I guess, which is the original advice I got years ago anyway. Arg, this is hard. You wouldn't believe some of the junk I hafta wade through just to see tags from a handful of people I actually do want to see. I've had days where I get tagged nearly a thousand times, a few days more than that, one really oddball crazy day was nearly 3000. Been awhile since that one.

This is how aspienado agonizes. I use to inflict miles of thought process on innocent souls until they couldn't take it any more, then it was private blogs, now Pinky blog is letting aspienado whine 1- if it's brief, and 2- if it amuses Pinky.

It bothers me to reach a point where I consider actually cutting people off over a matter of inconvenience, because they are people and they are my friends. I'm trying really really hard, but I sure do wanna pop out a few eyeballs and toy with some brains, string brain coils out like yarn through eye sockets and stuff, but then I'd be an anti-friend and it would've been better to unfollow and block. So I'm arg-ing on a blog post.

this clicks to the most incredible etsy gift selection I've ever seen
In the meantime, I need to keep up with my own growth and get back on track. I keep saying that, don't I? Yes, I called my staff in to a planning meeting today, I'm already cracking the whip over them, and they're whining like a buncha babies that we're still on holiday time.

#Shezzaday 6- highlights from #BlackFriday

Because being left alone to our own devices is a very rare thing around here.

I'M GETTING THE HANG OF THIS

I suggested @bonenado download a kid screen lock app like mine, but did he look for the happy alligator? NO. He downloaded something different without checking it out first and promptly got stuck inside his new locked screen for over 20 minutes. We couldn't tell if the writing was Chinese or what, but finally got a popup that asked if he'd like to be kind and share the app, at which point we kinda picked up it's probably someone's homemade app, and if he gets charged for it I'm going to lightly mock all over again. I say lightly... By the way, my Samsung Galaxy S6 trumps his Turbo for navigation options when you get stuck in a locked screen app in another language. Don't know this from experience, just couldn't believe how much more difficult his phone was to work with than mine.

This is probably what he's like at parties

You have 29 days left from right now to stream the official rerun via BBC. Just click this snip. GO!

Couple pieces of pie sitting around and ice cream in the freezer and @bonenado and I fought over the broccoli and cheese, because it was THAT GOOD. Yes, we fought over a leftover vegetable dish. I claimed and then found out later mr sneaky pants got into it behind my back.

Yes, #BennyDepp. It was awesome. There's no telling how long this vid will manage to stay up, others were actually being shut down again within the same hour of upload. That's right, you're looking at a #BennyDepp sammy right now. CLICK IT. :edit: I am now replacing it with the official Graham Norton vid.

Yes, I went there. What gets thrown into the Pond, stays in the Pond. No, it won't click. If you don't know what the Pond of Death is by now, your loss.

Aspienado wants to live there. Pinky says no. If anyone has a problem with that, well...

I keep walking. No one hasta tag along to keep up, just stop jumping in my way like a pet for me to trip over. All my actual real pets learned real fast not to do that because I step on them. On purpose. Except for my chickens. I will totally stop for chickens and spend half my day hanging out, but that's beside the point. Anyway, I'm not fond of setting fires, and this is a really bad time of year to do it, so it's more like I'm trying to decide whether to smoke or pickle my tongue before I thinly slice it into a savory bechamel and pour it over some kind of fancy curly pasta with a grate of aged gouda.

I may hafta cave and super stream my hootsuite. I dunno. I wanna keep things simple, and maybe the simplest thing right now is put the phone down and stay off social media for awhile, but I'm trying really hard not to disappear like I did last year.

People keep telling me I'm nice. I'm not nice, I'm kind. Big difference. The reason I am kind is because I don't know if someone talking to me (or trying to talk to me) might be dealing with a giant hole in their life after someone died, or if they're in shock after finding out they have cancer, or maybe lost a child or has a child in a hospital.

I hid all my real stuff for years. No one ever knew, and I was treated pretty badly on the internet sometimes just because someone else was having a dumb day and dumped on me. I don't believe in dumping on people.

The most famous incident, if you can call it that, was MegaCon. No one ever knew how sick I was that weekend, and that over the next couple of years I really did think I might die, and I disappeared off the internet. People in the older fandoms never saw me cry over a child being lost in my family, never saw me cry why me to the heavens when I was too sick to dress myself for several months, never knew the anguish I was in watching my mom fail in super slo-mo. During all this, I built fansites, and I know from this level of dedication that most of the beautiful and wonderful things on the internet come from people dealing with anguish. We write, we create, we design, we build, we entertain because we need something to hang onto, something to help us live through unimaginable pain. Because of this, I am kind.

That does not mean I am a rug to walk on, a stuffed toy to bounce on, a kindred spirit to be pals with. Yes, I do have friends. They know me. Some of them have been getting to know me for several years, some of the deeper lurkers have known me for a decade or two. If you wanna be my friend, too, get in step. Learn where your place is with me, because it's not front and center in front of my face. I run with a solid pack, I love them very dearly, and I will love you dearly too if you take a little time.

p.s. if you dig conspiracy theories, here you go, in case you're bored or something.

#BennyDepp emergency

I told @bonenado yesterday morning if I ever get rich I'm buying him a prostitute. That man is living art with a vacuum cleaner. He's so loving all over the walls and corners and baseboards and furniture. Not just for floors, people. Behind doors, along the tops of curtains...

Yesterday's delightful little train wreck.

Some of you might be aware by now that we Americans are NOT going to get to see Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch on the Graham Norton Show tonight because of stupid BBCA holiday programming, thank you so much #Thanksgiving and #BlackFriday.

BUT we're in luck because someone is going to stream it on youtube. Or something. Click this for the countdown.

And if that turns out to be a dud (yes, new 3-day old account with a punny name and only one sub but we really don't know what that means, do we?) just put "live stream Graham Norton Show" in your search bar before 4:30 central time today. Good luck. Oh, remember that London time is currently 6 hours ahead of Chicago time. I have no idea where Graham Norton is really filmed or whether it's actually truly live. but 15 1/2 hours from right now puts the youtube stream at 7:30 p.m. central, and by then the actual live stream could be long over. And if all else fails, haunt the Graham Norton Show channel on youtube for highlights from the show. I'm always over there snooping through his stuff, he has the best late night show ever, in my opinion. I'm sure he'll be sweet and put #BennyDepp clips up for us fairly quickly.

This article on Ben wanting more kids- is he even ever home? (Browsing today's Ben feeds on the twitters, Ben is taking over the #behindthescenes hashtag today, in case you're bored and not out shopping.) Also-

Yes, some of us actually stay home on #BlackFriday and save lives. Check out this Black Mass featurette. You're welcome.

run with me

I'm not a safe person, but I will do everything in my power to stand between the dark and the people I love. I still make mistakes. I still say stupid things and do stupid stuff, but never out of malice. Some of my friends find me dragging them out of their holes and get a little scared. That's ok. I'm learning not to spotlight and make the world suddenly look at you. But y'all know it's important, right, to be seen. That people know you're there. I hope Holly won't mind me using her as an example. The first two snips were private, but hella cool.

I couldn't help pointing it out. SPOTLIGHT.

I've been saying for the last three years how important fans and fandoms are to me, helping me hang on through the long dark nights, helping me feel like I'm part of something and not alone. Even when I want to be alone, I'm lurking in the dark, watching the webs, finding cool stuffs, enjoying other people's wit and creativity and enthusiasm and love for something. So are you.

I've tried sitting in a dark hole. God knows I love my cave. But even in my cave I can't help starting trouble. It's in my nature to stand up and speak knowing I could be shot. It's in my nature to be real and draw fire, and it's deeply rooted in my nature to love it.

But I know the social discomfort I'm working through is nothing compared to what some of my lurkers are going through. Fandoms know no borders, and I feel like I have a worldwide family out there. Not all my lurkers are aware what's going on or what it's even like to live so close to the kinds of political stress I see people coming from in my trackers, but *I* see you, and I do not and never will take you for granted. I once got after another blogger for blowing her outside views off as spambots. Unless you haven't turned on your spam filters, those dots are PEOPLE.

I think the last big politically incorrect hurdle above all others that we need to overcome is the them vs us mentality, them being anyone who is not us. In the last couple of weeks my blogs have been hit hard by several areas dealing with military incursions and law/justice policies flipping over like pancakes. I can't even tell you how it blows my mind and how honored I feel seeing lurkers regularly coming from dire straits, because fandoms have no borders.

I'm a big leap person. All my life I've been the one in trouble, the one leading the pack into trouble, the one being kicked out of the pack because I'm trouble. Behind all of my leaping has been a solid belief that my all or nothing leaps are important, even when they were utterly wrong. They were important because I learned so much from them.

Some of you know I'm a Jim Kirk fan. Saying it like that is about as understating as it gets, but blogger doesn't allow 30 foot letters glowing into space. I'm not a mommy blogger. I'm not an entertainment journalist. I'm a fan who believes that what we're seeing in our favorite shows mirrors our fears, hopes, and dreams for our own futures. I believe it's important for fans to find each other and keep holding the world together in our hearts and souls while real life keeps blowing it up. I see you out there. You guys are my rock. I especially like that Holly isn't afraid to push me back out of my hole and challenge me. We used to make a game of it, and rock twitter apart, and maybe we will again.

The dark and I are not strangers. You guys know I wanna start bigger trouble than that. I'm not sure if me and Holly could ever break twitter, but there's something going on in this world I want to break really bad, and I see you guys that are watching and I know you'll know when to duck. #aspienado

I invented #SylarKhan O_O

I am learning so many things about browsers from my Lexxperience stats....
OS;FBSV  Facebook, iPads, and the dangers of ASP.NET browser detection
GSA Google Search Appliance

I've about talked poor @bonenado's ears off this weekend. I bet he's missing the quiet of last weekend, but he's the one who keeps starting conversations, so watching him wriggle his way out of me motor mouthing to get back to his paused TV show is kind of funny.

The problem is, Scott is a big crime lord buff (yes, on top of the zombie werewolf samurai WWII vampire stuff), and I'm a big film marketing buff (among other extensive film obsessions, I own nearly every Johnny Depp movie ever made, read the thousand page bio, studied *everything* about filming the POTCs and at least half his other movies {I did the same thing with Jackie Chan a decade earlier}), so when he asked if I knew who all was in Black Mass, I launched into a power point on the genius who put all these marketable gems together while Scott interjected what he knew about all the cool history behind Whitey Bulger. What really sells it for me, though, is how absolutely creepy Johnny looks in character here.

I don't do movie theaters very well any more (that is one place I really miss being heavily medicated), so I'll have to suffer waiting patiently, hopefully we can get it on PPV fairly quickly, because I'll be a mess waiting for it. Some of you probably remember I'm also a bit of a Kevin Bacon fan, lol.

there's a story behind this if you click it
We're almost ready for the roofing guys. Scott lopped off several really big branches swooping across the yard so they can get a trailer and conveyor up to the house, got stuff around the deck and walkway ready to tarp. I'm hoping they show up on a week I'm booked up and in town every day, which is any time over the next three weeks, because I'm sure internet will be a mess and the noise will make me insane. If not, I've got several pairs of headphones and about 1500 downloaded vids on standby.

You guys know there's a big CERN thing going on, right? Hang on, I need a brain boost with my coffee. These vids actually play in 'compose' here on blogger while I'm working. Cool, huh? You don't get that with the 'beep beep boop' on wordpress. Well, at least I don't. Anyway, in case that prompted anyone else to free associate and wonder what else has happened on Sept 28 through the years, here you go. (:edit: Sorry, wrong day. 9-23 Hey, you can get a t-shirt.) In the meantime... coffee. (Ok, those of you not following, here's your 'end of the world 9-23' search. Have fun.) (Oh, and the song is an illuminati joke.) (I personally don't think 9-23 is the 'end' because they haven't digitized the dollar yet, really wish they'd pull together on this prophecy stuff, this yanking out new end dates over and over is getting sooooo old.) (And if it all turns out to be real, freaking out isn't going to change anything, so chillax and go get some coffee.) (:another edit: Every time an end date is announced, I want a t-shirt with "I survived fill in this blank". I'd have a whole closet of t-shirts if I'd really done this.) (I'm not mocking anyone {ok, yes I am}, but I'm going to have a bit to say in Existential Aspie about people who crave escapism through end world doom and are severely disappointed every time it doesn't happen.) (In a nice way. Not mocking.) (Guys, I. grew. up. with. this.) (My point.) (Ok, now my link is the same color and you can't see it, just click that point thing.)

My Khanlock post continues to be my most searchable Pinky bait. I linked this pic to the referring url because it looks cool, but I can't tell from my end if it'll open up for you.

Why is this not a thing? I can find almost any other ship combo imaginable, but not this.

Heck, there's even a #Jindy ship. Srsly, click that hashtag for the feed.

While I quite enjoyed combing this search for anything Sylar-Khan, alas, I'm stunned that I finally couldn't find something on the webs. I always find everything on the webs.

You know what this means, right? Time travel is REAL, and someone is changing things. Yes, I find it that impossible for SylarKhan to not exist in any form. I find streams crossing Molly/Khan (Sherlock/Star Trek) and Danny/Kirk (Heroes/Star Trek), and even Sylar/Sherlock (Heroes/Sherlock), but not Sylar/Khan (Heroes, Star Trek).

Not that these aren't excellent.

9 years of Fourths

On this day.

2007

I made this.  Couldn't resist the temptation to try.

2008

Last night was pretty cool.  We were flipping around watching fireworks on tv, then when it started going off up and down the street we went outside and watched for about an hour.  I counted seven different houses setting them off, couldn't see any houses for the woods, but we saw some pretty cool stuff coming up over the trees.  It really was the most perfect 4th of July we've had here.  The weather was perfect, the sky had stars, it's been wet enough lately that there was no worry about setting the woods on fire, and best of all, no mess in MY yard to pick up, haha.  One year we had a little tornado come right over the house practically out of nowhere just as fireworks got over, we all barely made it inside.  I was running and stumbled, and the wind was so strong it picked me up and set me back on my feet before even one knee could hit the ground.  I stumbled hard and should have gone sprawling.  So that was really scary.  Other years we've had all Scott's family up here and total chaos and mess to clean up, or super dry years where I stayed up all night watching out the windows for fires, because one little fire getting loose would take out all our houses.  But last night was perfect.

2009

No post on the 4th, but this was the day before.
Scott picked up my new plates for my car.    They are total Samuel L. Jackson plates.    Got a whole new ID, sure hope people don't think I picked it on purpose for vanity plates.  MF9-MOV.  First thing that hit my mind was Die Hard 4 with Zeus (Samuel L. Jackson) yelling "Move over, mother-f***er!!!"  Goodness.  I'm sure people will sit in traffic behind me wondering what the 9 is supposed to mean...

2010

Had enough going on that I didn't notice, so about 3 hours after putting the meat on the grill and everyone gone and Scott getting ready to go mow a bit, he discovered he'd left his Iowa cut pork chop on the grill...    Black, hard as a brick, I don't think even a starving dog would be able to eat it.  On the other hand, I wound up with the most beautiful ribeye I've ever had in my life, tender as butter, buried and forgotten under burgers and brats.  And the halibut and salmon were super fab, absolutely perfect, better than any restaurant.  I made a half pound of shrimp in butter and garlic on the stove, so everybody got some, and I'm so glad I made that sticky rice and noodles.

Really enjoyed Twink, but I think a lot of it was she actually staked her dog outside and acted much more normal.  I sat out on the steps with her and the dog after we ate, took a few little scraps out, lit a couple of the most amazing smoke bombs.  Brilliant magenta and some kind of blue that was so perfectly ~blue~, like bluebirds and sky.  Then she and Dave went on to the I Love America show.  They had over 100,000 people this year.

I heard Sister 2 and her kids were going camping at Sister 1's place tonight.  Hope they're having fun!  So far not too bad out, humidity isn't terribly oppressive and no rain in sight so far.  I was surprised how much I enjoyed being outside this evening myself, in years past have been so miserable with bugs and stuff, but this year didn't seem bothered much at all by them.  Saw a little bat before it got real dark.  We haven't had a single bat in our bat house, and gram found a little dead one in her yard, so we didn't know whether they were having a good year or a bad one.  Very encouraging to see one flitting around the yard.

2011

I see 100 degrees popping up all over the weather map.  Sucky, sucky, sucky.  Had rain pop up in tiny little spots like freckles all over the country last night, got a bunch of rolling thunder and wind here, mostly just show, barely any rain at all.  This morning looks like that is about all gone again, after over 150 reports of weather coming in last night.  I've always wondered if fireworks affect weather, seems so coincidental to have so many scattered popups out of the blue on the same nights people are setting off fireworks all over the nation.

2012

The title of the post is called "third longest day ever" and is the infamous zombie year. Great reading, too bad I'm not going to share it, haha.

2013

The post the day before is called "bloody hell >=l" and the post the day after is called "July 2013 is going to be very memorable". On top of impending surgery and a bun in an oven trying to get out and be a burrito, here are the only highlights I'm going to share. All I can say is thank goodness they moved the migration date off another month, because that baby came early.

I'm super scattered now that the big Xanga migration is only 10 days away, not sure how I'm not absolutely freaking out, but somehow I'm just getting through this. Saving my nervous breakdown for the procedure, I can sleep through it all. Psyche guy has added delayed stress response Tourette's to my diagnosis, apparently it's getting pretty obvious.

2014

And everything is public now, so here's the links from before and after the Fourth, because I didn't write on the Fourth.

a statement about twitter (boring, don't read this)

2015

@bonenado has been wearing his patriotic t-shirts to work all week. The only red, white, and blue shirt I have is my NASA tee, so I guess I'll wear that today.

Since it's been one of the wettest summers on record, I'm not worried about the woods catching fire and all our houses going up in flames in our sleep. Some of the people around my ridge have the kind of money to blow on the big cannon stuff, and between that and summer youngsters hanging out during vacations, we hear fireworks going off for several weeks. As soon as the tents open up, they start, and every single night sometimes very long into the night, the forest around us sounds like a war zone. And then the rest of July is pretty much bored kids burning up the rest of the stash they overbought. Anyone else up for a solid month of fireworks? Too bad it couldn't coincide with the cicadas this year, just get the noise over with all at once, because August will be even worse. From Periodical Cicadas- Missouri Department of Conservation-

  • 2015. Brood 4 will emerge again in western Missouri, and so will Brood 23 in southeastern Missouri. Unlike the two converging broods of 1998, the two 2015 broods are widely separated, with no overlap in territory. This is the only time during the 21st Century when two Missouri broods emerge in the same year.

Not sure I believe the nonoverlap thing, since I've seen Pacific coast birds in my yard that aren't even supposed to be here, not like they can run a locator over all the ground ahead of time and document the prehatch. But I digress. I'm sure everyone will be sick enough of me bringing up cicadas by the time it's over.

I'm also not cooking anything special this year. We'll probably spend $10 on cheap smoke bombs and poppers for Bunny. I'm sure I'll be able to stand out in my yard and see spectacular shows rising up through the woods all around my house.

This wins twitter and facebook this year.

I think I made this in 2007. I had more, but even some of my Johnny Depp stuff got dumped/deleted during the early 2012 depression debacle when nearly all my Lexx stuff went into the trash.

I hope everyone stays safe this weekend, no burning hands and putting eyes out, ok?
