automated plagiarism theft

"I singsong sadness into something productive." That popped into my head last night.

So this is happening. Wrastain's tools: Unlimited content for your website

WordAI, guys. As near as I can tell (and the Master is back, right on cue, not sure if it's related), Pinky blog is perfect fodder for auto rewrite. AUTOMATED PLAGIARISM THEFT IS THE LATEST ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MONEY MAKING SCAM.

And since it's automated, even the 'author' of whatever article being sold doesn't know what they just ripped off, right, unless they're the ones setting it to certain material in the first place.

Auto blogging is the opposite of those next new singing star shows. Those shows rigorously enforce actual talent to the point of stardom. Auto blogging is like reproducing other people's talents into rubbish and selling it off as original material. Auto blogging super sucks for the entire planet because not only does it clog up multiple servers with redundant material, it also clogs up search engines and ultimately our brains. Words are becoming meaningless in an automated society.

I hope this post gets auto picked up, auto rewritten, and auto sold off over and over until it saturates the world, because that would be funny.

Here is one of the feedback comments on their site- "I have all of my writers using WordAi to rewrite content for me and they are each making me over $100 per day."

Do you see why I don't "write for" other people? I've been asked to write original articles for big sites, well, wouldn't be long until those articles were rewritten and reproduced on competitor sites. I still have extremely unique original material that never gets copied except by real life translators simply because I've never associated with a content curating site that funnels readers to specific content. Think about it- if Pinky blog is able to see this stuff in stats just because this has grown into a big blog (and I created all of this all by myself), imagine what a content curate site is able to see. I would be swarmed into oblivion by now if I had never remained rogue.

Other than thunderstorms taking out our internet, still got my fingers crossed for Sharknado tonight. If you don't see me in the live tweet, I'll actually not have internet. Also, if 'Sharknado' and 'live tweet' actually get picked up and rewritten along with this article, double funny, right. 😁

Bunnycraft and the Meemaw of Bunnies

Holding cooked rat for my guests, like a good hostess.
Quickie dream for minecraft gamers- You know how we can find strongholds with an eye of ender, and the latest update includes new ender stuff. I dreamed that we could make an ender crafting table where we could place a new kind of almost invisible ender block around items to render them so that we could see what they'd look like in different mod packs, like being able to look at things in our own mod packs and see what they'd look like in different dimensions.

Note- All the stuff I've constructed in MoCreatures multiplayer has been from scratch in survival mode.

I designed that chandelier myself.
It's a Koch curve in 3/4.
When you walk underneath and look up it looks like a dodecaplex.
I can't believe how screamingly far behind I am in everything, but I'm to the point where I'm tossing stuff to the side saying who cares? Well, I care very much, but I'd rather stick to the fun parts and worry later. At least the laundry is caught up in real life. But if real life gets as laggy as my entire internet life, Christmas is already doomed to be stalled out until next Easter. I must quantify this thought with a contextual statement- @bonenado and I are completely caught up with Game of Thrones. Considering that we'd never seen a single episode up to less than a month ago, and considering we slammed through 50 virtual hours of it just to sync up with you guys live tweeting season 6, I feel like my planet tilt went dangerously more askew. We are now 7 eps behind in The 100, 3 eps behind in The Big Bang Theory, jumped completely off the Scorpion train a season ago, continually lagging a week behind in Gotham, The Flash, Arrow, The Blacklist, Blindspot, Person of Interest, and several other things @bonenado keeps up with and I don't, like NCIS and Elementary and Grimm and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm sure I've missed a few. In case anyone is getting a picture of us being couch potatoes, Scott is gone 12 hours a day and I very rarely turn the TV on while he's gone. Oh, and he got the entire front and back mowed and weedeated this weekend, and went to his niece's graduation on top of Bunny being here Friday and overnight Saturday. Scott is a good Papa, actually spends all those hours with us while she's here. He was never the kind of parent to dump his kid on the stepmom, and he definitely doesn't dump Bunny on stepMeemaw, even though she's my favorite in the whole state of Missouri.

It was delightful obsessing over this chessboard floor and the chandelier hanging from the obsidian ceiling.
Still waiting to see if Bunny breaks out in a roseola rash. The only symptom is still just that high fever that keeps coming back in between occasional tylenol doses. I'm on call for a few days in case daycare can't keep her or won't take her. I'm in serious jet lag after this weekend.

Even though we've got grass pollen now and I'm across the street from a hay field, I've decided it's time to start cutting back on the zyrtec so I can get a break in before I have to ramp up through ragweed season. I've cut out the night dose and my arms are itching like mad. Not breaking out or anything. Cost/benefits of nearly year-round zyrtec can be maddening to manage.

Looking back the other direction.

That framed album on the left is 'C418-cat' from a zombie spawner loot chest.
I seem to have two of those.
One of the draws of MoCreatures is the realistic and very interactive variety of animals and bugs.

As with any home construction site, one eventually goes through closing inspection. This guy is really picky, has been popping in without warning and watching every jot and tittle in the contract. I just ignore him till he goes away again.

I've never yet killed an enderman in my entire minecraft career.
I made a run-through a couple of days ago, have already added more work, plus I've already started final finishing work in the nightclub, which we'll see in another post later. This is about 6 1/2 minutes long and then my connection timed out. Notes under the video because I didn't take the time to do captions.

The best part is the first minute, going under the chandelier and looking up, you can see the dodecahedron-esque Koch curve effect. If you like hypercubes, you'll like my chandelier. About 1:30 in I head into a little ante room that simulates a screened in porch, the only real room I've built off the core house. The rosebed just outside the room was the very first thing I put in, and you might recall that I said every evil villain needs a sea of red because evil lairs like to hint of beautiful tragedy. Well, if we're going to continue psyche-analyzing my minecraft house (house-tree-person), then I must tell you of a dream I had 2 nights ago after I built that room. I actually showed myself in my dream that the screened in porch is a barren womb, and the sea of red flowers just outside of it was the baby I lost. I dare anyone to tell me I'm wasting time playing minecraft. I'm going so deep this year with the psychologist because of minecraft. It strikes me a little sad, but I'm good with it (it's a very old wound), and I think adds a little charm to the whole twisted Disney evil lair feel. Continuing on, at 2 minutes I'm in the elevator and it really is cool, like a real glass elevator. 2:45- The little group of torches on the obsidian roof are where center is marked out, and that is where I'd like to put some kind of cool evil light, originally hoped we could move a torched off spider spawner to there, now I have even bigger plans with redstone 'electrical' power. 2:58- Those are sharks and dolphins in the pond below. The sharks really attack you, and I've seen a bear go into the water and drag a dolphin out and kill it. MoCreatures is awesome. 3:30- the white patches are bits of snow that haven't melted yet. 4:50- The tour around the future roller coaster, still getting structure into place. 6:35- The village that Riv saved and walled off and roofed in hedges to protect it. It's really cool inside.

My life isn't all minecraft, by the way, lol. It's just been really handy getting me through a bit of stress this spring. In the meantime, Bunny likes to wear ponytails like Meemaw. Ponytails are cool.

Bunny made Papa hold her hand while she went to sleep when she spent the night. Papa is the best. He's watched 101 Dalmations with her a bazillion times already. (original version) Well, it was on a bazillion times in the background, I don't think she's ever sat through it once.

By the way, a friend got a pic of my movie theater in a different texture pack, makes the movie that's playing look even more like a horror flick, lol. The first pic is in default, sort of looks like classic old style horror, the second is whatever pack my friend was using, looks more like modern teen horror.

The whole view blitz seems to have died out. I think switching to https will solve a few problems for me on my end after all. I have no idea why in the world Pinky blog attracts intentional app traffic, because my other blogs don't (and Lexxperience gets world traffic and has higher post view counts), unless this is just a really good blog to use as a traffic driver in general anyway except I'm not the one making money on it, so why should someone else, right? At any rate, watching the view count plunge down to 21 yesterday was hilarious, finally genuinely reflects how slow my online presence has been in general lately. Oh, don't worry, the button spammer in Brazil and *ahem* S-e-**ma000l-t in Ukraine are still hanging around (how to block the second one, but I don't think that would change my blogger view count), but they weren't the ones blitzing me in the first place. Still no idea what the heck that was all about, but it was sneaky enough to get past my google analytics.

Time to move along. I've been up since 3 a.m., dressed since 5:30 a.m., and I still haven't had any breakfast.

Bohemian frappe soda, spare me this life from this monstrosity

I've played around comparing the new https against the old http on blogger and the only thing so far that I can see being completely stopped from loading by https is my Pinky Press Review widget in the right side column. May have to spend a little time later looking at the paper.li coding and see whether it's fixable. Paper.li is outside the U.S., no idea if they'll work on google compliance or not. Google is doing everything in its power to work with international laws and firewalls to smooth out all the wrinkles across all the search engine inhibitions. ~Pinky approves.~ I have just flipped the https switch. Not sure if this is related, but I need to see if it affects the 500+ views I've suddenly gotten in the last 48 hours, which I'm having a hard time believing are legit. This doesn't say it stops bots from apps and crawlers on my end, but it can't hurt to experiment. I went through my GWT, Google analytics, statcounter, and the blogger stats, and less than 10% show up as bots, but still, that's just a pretty big number alla sudden.

"There are three main benefits to using HTTPS instead of HTTP to access your blog:
  • It helps check that your visitors open the correct website and aren’t being redirected to a malicious site.
  • It helps detect if an attacker tries to change any data sent from Blogger to the visitor.
  • It adds security measures that make it harder for other people to listen to your visitors’ conversations, track their activities, or steal their information.
"

In the meantime, my last blood pressure reading was 117/71, and while my doctor would be ecstatic, I just felt super wiped out yesterday. I'm sure part of it was chronic fatigue kicking in really hard after physical therapy. I don't know if allergy season has taken that much out of me or what, really wasn't aware how bad the exhaustion had gotten. No wonder I haven't been producing other content. Does't mean I haven't been busy, though. Here's the construction site a couple days ago. Ignore the scaffolding.

We've been doing mob experiments in multiplayer, sadly frustrated at how stymied we are over spawner control. I run into forums where other people have also tried to move spawners to no avail. I'm not wanting to farm mobs or anything, just think it would look hella cool to use a torched off spider spawner as a beacon light on top of a black roof high up on a mountain. Oh, well, maybe I'll do something with redstone power instead. In the meantime, may as well play with the spawners where they are when we find them.

Oh, hadn't checked this last week, the sound came through. I've been trying for months to get sound and this one did and I don't even know how. Don't worry, it's super short. We laughed our heads off at this guy's awesome footwear.

I've gotta get outa here, psyche guy appointment. Might mix it up today. Wonder what would happen if we psyche analyze minecraft and sex...

I wanna luv ur brains out

click for cute valentines

Getting lumped into a #FF tweet with @realDonaldTrump, like you do. I guess somebody doesn't read my PondOfDeath blog. It is to lol. I like Bill, he's cool. Go #FF @IamBill46.

Everything is going south, doing a controlled pain crash before the weekend hits. We might have Bunny tomorrow, so cooking meals ahead. Meatloaf and mash tatos, cheesy broccoli-cauliflower soup with bacon, you know, stuff that's easy to warm up. Laundry and dishes are caught up, and once everything's out of the oven and off the stove I may be throwing myself against walls for sport and amusement between wrapping a heating pad around my neck and shoulders. You know what's actually distracting and delicious during a pain spike from hell? Sauerkraut for breakfast. I'm not kidding. You'd be amazed how awesome really good distraction tastes when nothing else will shut up. I had brats cooked ahead and frozen back, easy to get one out and open a can of sauerkraut. I'm not making this up. This is probably how really old people reach really oldom. I wonder if cabbage was the magic lettuce that the witch sold to Rapunzel's dad when he exchanged the promise of his first kid for something that would save his wife during a terrible illness.

Yes, I mentioned a documentary. So far I've got 30 short vids and about that many stills, over half of them processed and loaded. I don't know how to even describe my excitement. I can't say it's killing me or I'll jinx myself. I've been really careful to make sure I can't blame this developing fibro flare on sitting at the table too long, lotta constant moving around. I'll just say I'm so elated I can hardly stand it.

Watching my page views break the record today. I've got my eye on 3 bots, but they're not doing enough to make that big of a difference. Usually a crawler bot tops out around 40 page hits, and very rarely more than one on the same day, and even more rarely more than once a month. Normally it's more like a handful of random pages and then they move on, a very small percentage of incoming. I seem to have picked a new one up that tracks back to a place with a freak pop up about how your PHONE BATTERY has been infected with a VIRUS, whatever you do DON'T SHUT YOUR PHONE DOWN, and FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO CURE YOUR PHONE BATTERY.

10 common misconceptions about mobile device batteries

But it's still barely a blip on the hit radar.

Still waiting on burger to thaw. Where's that heating pad... Spoiler warning if you haven't seen The Abominable Bride yet.

Jawn

Waking up around 1:30 a.m., stumbling around trying not to make noise, laughing when I run into a Ukraine bot giving me a sweet hit burst, suppressing the insane compulsion to cough after I laugh... Yes, I love you guys too, but that was a pretty big glitch, time to block me a bot. They've got a hidden drop down menu that shows up on hover after you get there, but no direct link.

I really don't mind the daily handful, but when it explodes like that, yeah, it's a problem. Why? Well, according to this site- Evil Spam Bot Ruins Analytics

"Seamalt is an Ukranian SEO company with an obnoxious search bot, pinging sites, blowing up analytics and ruining your analytics data to try to drum up customers. It’s spammy, it’s gross, it targets WordPress sites and I want it out of my numbers. You should too. If you want to get rid of Seamalt you have several options. I will be doing this for all of my current and future clients."

Except the company name is spelled wrong, leave that first 'a' out. Stuff like that is pretty crucial in a search bar. #rolleyes If we're going to be professional and whine about our bounce rates, let's at least spell the enemy right.

That's right, I talk to my bots. Bots have feelings too, you know. I'm probably the only live blogger you know who talks to their bots.

So this guy walked in the door yesterday.

His name is Jawn Khanlock Vengeance, so if you see me talking about Jawn, it's new lappy. Old lappy is still old lappy, never named it. My upgraded Windows 10 level Kaspersky is already fussing around pointing out probs, and I'm like Hey, you need to get a grip, this is life on a router, k? I'm sure it'll take a few days to settle, get the new furniture in, fill up the closets and stuff. In the meantime, still blogging on old lappy because I keep hitting something on Jawn that blows the screen into a thousand percent zoom, and I need to see more than a few words at a time while I'm writing.

Back to the mundane. Mostly just the cough finally starting to calm down. World War II has turned into transport vehicles zooming around with piles of mucous, plowing the roads back out, reporting in to toxic material relocation sites, lotta sticky dead germy thing going on in there, lotta little walkie talkies organizing little work crews with several million little transport trucks. They've all got standard issue uniform and cute tiny little sunglasses and caps.

You know, I always kept a backup bottle of eye drops for years. YEARS. Until I opened the new bottle last week. Was actually in Walmart on Wednesday walking right by them thinking I should grab a backup, and I'm all nah, what could possibly happen?

Part of the nerve fail thing ages ago is continuing uber severe dry eye probs. Under no circumstances can you EVER touch the tip to any surface, even your own eyeball, and it's dang hard not dropping a tiny bottle with carpal tunnel in the middle of the night when your lizard eye is so bad it feels like solid sandstone. I've been through the big deal, the tip touched thing, and yes, you really do get a fun little eye infection that way.

So two days ago I'm stumbling around in the dark out of bed, hacking out lungs and my nostrils on absolute fire, and I grab that bottle and have squirted both nostrils before I even realize that's not the saline mist... O_O oh. my. god. I shove a sterile bottle up the germiest part of my body, there is no way I'm saving it for my eyes now, unless I don't think I'm having enough fun yet and want a delightful week of pink eye on top of it all. This is my week, guys.

Cue some motivational 3 a.m. brain training jam before I go back to bed.

HTTP 404 Not Found error- Pinkyween no es Halloween

Got a heads up that we might get early trick-or-treaters, oh, you know, about WEDNESDAY. I'm a gramma now, I can do this...

All you guys who think/thought the toddler years are/were rough, you've no idea. In 20-30 years you'll do it all over again with the added benefits of 1- unbendiness, 2- unenerginess, 3- unbraininess, and 4- unenduringiness. You'll still retain your basic rights to sleepless nights and long mind-numbing days while honing your older gen skillz repeating all the stupid cliches from your own parents that you swore would never come out of your own mouth, because old people say the most idiotic things to little kids they don't know what to do with in giant warehouse stores when everyone gets tired and a 2 year old decides to crawl onto a shelf of pillows and take a break until the shelf above gets bumped with a little foot and suddenly your descendant has to be unburied from a pile of shelves and pillows. Yes, I got video.

This was another birthday present I got. I'd never seen one of these before.

Next one clicks to what the crawl bot couldn't 'see'.

So somewhere out there is a phone brand/make/model that *might* not be able to see the mobile version of my 'about me' bio section if they switch to desktop/web version, or something. Whatever. It's probably my own phone. Anyway, my first 404 error(s) started showing up on my birthday. How cool is that???

I've gotta get off here and split like the Flash, I'm supposed to be in PT by 8 a.m. Laterz.

ok, this one is an actual touch base

When stuff like this happens in my notifications.

links to #teamspooge convo headed for #ironchefspooge production
I bet all you people who create bot algorithms think you're hot stuff. So many of the robot accounts gather and retweet, the slyer ones think they look more like real people helming the controls when they leave fav trails through activity feeds.

Can you imagine running into another world out there with real intelligence spewing out all over the place? We'd be in this giddy news heaven repeating all the stuff we interpret from their communications going on, and eventually we'd grind down to an emotionally deflated drag through what turns out to be nothing but millions of bots regurgitating each other in feeds (which we in turn regurgitate...). I'm sure that's what most of our stuff would look like to aliens. What would be funny is realizing that there was nobody left under all that endless yap. Everyone croaked off, the bots continued their feeding frenzy. Get it? Feeding frenzy. Timeline feeds. Nevermind...

You can click this pic back to the funny convo
but right clicking and saving from there
won't get you a really super big wallpaper
like finding it in search like I did
Right click that one and it's huge
You're welcome
I keep running into blogs about how to blog, how to start writing if you go into a torpor and don't know what to write, how the catatonia of writer's block is actually cathartic, how a running stream of content is preferable to stagnation, and all I can say is, all you guys are doing it wrong.

If you are miserable trying to set up a blog or miserable trying to actually blog or miserable and leaving a trail of abandoned blogs or miserably frustrated and deleting blogs, peut-être pas le blogging est votre forme d'expression, si? If you are feeling relieved a goal was reached so you can take a break (especially if you are paid for the content or otherwise grinding through forced content to push monetization efforts), peut-être que vous avez choisi de ne pas faire ce que vous aimez.

I'm under huge loads of stress this week, and it's all I can do to tear myself away from my blog right now. I want to write so bad. I have so much stuff. I have to keep parseling my time out over parsing my thoughts.

But I've gotta pull myself together! This is a big month with big stuff going on and I need to keep moving and doing and staying ready. By the way, I finally lost a pound. Remember those two pounds that showed up during the 14 hour Bunny day? I think I've finally convinced my good fellow cellular citizens that we don't need to pull that kind of a panic and keep such a tight inventory over calorie clinging. Chillax and let it go, froody little dudes.

God bless fans, for ye maketh my dayeth bettereth.

This is me giving a few more minutes to chillaxin before I bound off into the world of laundry and cooking and floors and dentist and another Bunny day and all those new pre-deep tissue reconditioning nerve flossing exercises I've started. That's right, we've arrived to nervous system assessment and retraining, which means relearning how to move everything in my body, since I'm such an aggressive strength trainer that I'm pushing nerve fail. Iz a delicate balance, and an indicator that I may be on another fence regarding reassessment between severe fibro vs mild MS, or even both. Nothing scary after all the stuff I've been through so far, more like exciting to reach a respectable let's rethink this diagnostic approach level.

Big weekend! My birthday! #napclub lol Did I mention I finally broke out the blu-ray set?

p.s. I promise I'll be back on the twitters soon, gimme a couple more days, ok? Love you guys.

lame post-blazeofglory post, except I'm actually still euphoric and making really bad puns

Now I know what those other people in the med forums were talking about. +_+ Nothing like waking up at 2:30 a.m. wondering what in the world is going on now, and then remembering all the needle test sites. There's no way I'm going back to sleep. Wo, loads of cool stuff in a search for Sally Stitch's leg. If you can't sleep, this is the jackpot.

Youtube land is making my coffee weird. It's waaaaaay too early for coffee. This is going to be a long day.

All this public bloggy stuff keeps pulling me through a soul dredge I never expected. I'm going into the sixth month now.

Sorry, just found my way back out of deviantart. I forgot to bring you back a surprise because I was deep in thought again. Besides wondering why in the world my lips are so chapped alla sudden this week, where the mystery smell in the fridge is coming from, and whether I was too hasty telling @bonenado I'm not ready for a new phone yet (because he ordered one for himself and nyahed me), I keep wondering Why Ukraine? I mean, has someone over there actually cracked the not so stealthy subtext I keep veering madly off into the last 5+ months? Or is this a bot thing? I was really late getting Pinky blog hooked into google analytics, but now that I've got about a month under my belt I'm able to cross correlate a few dots with statcounter (omg statcounter is soooooo much more efficient, ripping out my eyeballs endlessly clicking through the stupid GA menus because I can't get individual synopses in nice little packets imagine me dragging my fingers down my face making my eyelids look creepy), but I'm getting a browser on it, so not a bot.

Ooookaaaayyy, nearly dragging the laptop off the table to get more coffee because headphones still around my neck. Oh, so this is a thing now. There you go, guys, just got your Christmas shopping novelty item out of the way. I think they'd probably take off in the States if those were Baphomet horns because that's so ragey lately. I grew up with goats. The whole idiotic counter Christian movement using goat symbolism thing is so a thousand years ago, you guys know that, right? (He was their Chtulhu du jour, basically.) Anyway, cat ears. On your headphones.

I mean, not to mock your belief system, I know that's politically incorrect. It's just, I know you must realize the whole church and state thing gets tremendously blurred around Baphomet. I know some of you are brainwashed nearly from birth and can't go around telling people you've actually eaten a sacrificial baby because the Jesus freaks all around you really don't get why the other side of the world is calling our country Satan and you'd rather not get beaten nearly to death for wearing a Batman t-shirt in the wrong culty neighborhood (that happened less than 50 miles from my house a few years ago), but if you really wanna be anti-church/state thingy, keep in mind that the pentagrams around your necks really aren't any different from the crosses around theirs. You're all branded cattle from the perspective of the belief system I was raised in.

That is probably where the brazenly stupid thing just kicked in. You guys'll see some awesome brazenly when the book comes out. I cross so many lines that there's no way I'll ever be able to reset my life back to default.

It would be easier just playing a game of chess with me.

Let's see if I can find something to drag me back down out off this trampoline. There is a line in this song that is part of why I disappeared for awhile. ~metaphorically~ But trew.

This public bloggy stuff. Srsly. That was too draggy downy. I need something jaunty. Get it? Johnty.

Ug. Ok,
Ooh, big caution on this one.

Scott is up, guess I'd better get some bacon on or something. In case you're not done staring at the screen yet, click for a creepy survey. Not an ordinary survey. (Excellent Spelling and Grammar)!

beta testing bot algorithms now, like you do

Click for cool drone fail vid

Learned a new thing yesterday, probably nice of me to share. Kept wondering why my blood sugar level kept rising through the day, nearly tapered off the pred, only nibbling on cheese with no carbs, what gives? Well, turns out proteins break down over several hours into other things, and a percentage of protein metabolism becomes blood glucose, so even 4 hours later on an empty stomach, that teensy amount of digestion was keeping my blood sugar level up around 145ish. Wow. Good to know. Meats will do the same thing. Not sure about fats. Haven't really run into this problem before, hope it's not indicative of my function level changing. Probably more like I just never noticed.

Got that one particular big grunge job done yesterday, finally. Can't believe I already had to spend an hour fixing something in the middle of that. Sure glad I did the grunge work, or it would have been even harder to come back and fix later.

Office Cat cleans up your mess

Oh, yeah, remember the big paper.li disaster? They contacted me back. This was my reply to them before I went to bed last night and their reply back this morning. Wait, I'll just paste the whole convo here. I'm just using initials for the contact person. This is me not being paid to help a company test an epic fail.

Janika Banks, Jun 5, 00:11:

So something porny was surprisingly my leading story and I had to delete it off facebook, and none of my twitter friends were featured and they have the best scifi and gaming content. Settings are there for a REASON. I had my paper exactly like I wanted it, now the content doesn't relate to my readers on twitter at all.

D. S., Jun 5, 17:26:
Hi Janika,
Thank you for the valuable feedback. The new algorithm is a recent change that is currently in a 'live testing' phase, so your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated. I'm going to pass your message on to our team for discussion.
Kind regards,
D.
D.S, Jun 8, 16:09:
Hi Janika,
Our team is discussing the new algorithm this week, and I have a question for you. In regards to some of your usual content going missing, if you had the ability to 'star' your most important source so that it's always included, would this solve the problem?
Kind regards,
D.
Janika Banks, Jun 10, 02:55:

Hello, thanks for contacting me back.

I'm already back on track with most of my content simply by severely restricting the twitter access down to one out of 20 lists, my favorite hashtags, and my own timeline. My readers are hardcore scifi fans, and your new algorithm knocked Star Wars and Lego right off the map for sex positions and hundreds of cute cats simply because they'd gone viral. Two porny lead stories two days in a row on my facebook was unacceptable, so I tightened the bolts way down.

I can't control what my followers at large retweet. Many of them are grouped by list into things like 'internet magazines' that focus on gaming and comiccons, and I use those lists on paperli. However, with the new logarithm all it takes is one of them to have a cat day to flood my paper with cute cat virals. Instead of spreading out and finding more random content specifically tailored to my paper's core focus, the new algorithm condensed it down to sex and cats. (That does sound funny, I'm kind of laughing.) The whole point of MY paper is sifting out my own kind of random, the kinds of things that fellow scifi fans love. A quick glance through my paper was adequate for picking up the best of a multiplicity of feeds, something I found thrilling and very useful.

I'm really good at juggling bots, have been on social media for years, have beta tested for photobucket, google analytics, twitter, and sumall. Your idea is good in theory but very impractical for anyone whose settings were mowed over with the new algorithm. I have friends who use paper.li but I'm not sure whether they've noticed yet if anything changed, many of them are professional writers and might not have had the time yet. I'm a little more obsessive, check the daily links every single day.

I don't think a star is going to fix this problem. I was very happy with the old algorithm. I'm not sure what your goals are with the new algorithm, unless it's to push content that is already maxed out all over the internet ahead of content that was already locked into settings. I'm not sure what kind of answer I can give that doesn't sound a little snippy, because that sounds way too simplistic without more information.

If you do make more changes and would like feedback, I'm happy to try gears and gizmos galore. Kind of my thing.

I wish I'd just left the first two days of change alone so you could compare them to past archives and see how utterly cartoony and porny it suddenly went. I actually thought someone had broken into my paper and changed my settings. I panicked and started changing the content. If I'd left it alone and simply deleted the links off twitter and facebook, you'd be able to see it and fall out of your chairs laughing at how UNrandom that new algorithm was. Sex and cats. Lots and lots of cats... Like an April Fool's joke from hell. I do have to applaud that, it's not often I panic any more.

Hi Janika,
First, let me apologize for the content whiplash. Our developers worked very hard on the new algorithm (and they're still working to improve it), and for most papers, it's working out great. That said, sex and lots (and lots) of cats is definitely not an expected or acceptable result. We're keeping track of all of our feedback concerning the new algorithm, so rest assured and know that our developers will be reading your comments here.
We had a team meeting today to discuss the new algorithm, and I'm happy to inform you that we plan to implement the 'star' system I mentioned that will allow you to select one (possibly three) sources that you would like to boost content from. It's similar to our old source priority system and will put more control over your sources, and therefore your content, in your hands. We'll be implementing this feature very soon (possibly as early as next week), so please keep that mind. And I'll be looking forward to your feedback.
If you have any questions or other comments, I'll be happy to hear them.

Kind regards,
D.
:edit: I may as well insert the reply I just made to that, lol.

Hi again.

Question, just a thought popping into my mind.

If I need to use stars to refocus content now, what was the point of installing a new algorithm gathering more randomized content? Now we're layering settings over settings.

 Happy hump day.

paper.li- how it should have ended... Pretty sure they did NOT get feedback saying most papers thought it was working out great.

I just wanna fix the internet...

Ok, getting on with my morning now. Coffee kicking in.

Time to get all over my day.

twitter analytics

I've lightly mocked Sumall and other analytics in the past, including pinterest business analytics, google analytics (I was a beta tester), youtube, and even compared notes between my own blogs' different traffic counters in the past. Stats are like a train counting passion with me. I took stats courses in college through three different fields, the most rigorous being sociology, and there are oh so many ways that stats can be misleading.

From What do you mean by reach, exposure, and impressions?

When we say "impression", we mean that a tweet has been delivered to the Twitter stream of a particular account. Not everyone who receives a tweet will read it, so you should consider this a measure of potential impressions. Both reach and impressions should be treated as directional metrics to give you an idea of the overall exposure the tracked term received. Use these metrics to get a sense of the size of yourpotential audience, and use engagement metrics like retweets, clicks and replies to gain a more complete understanding of your impact.

You know the junk mail you get in your mailbox at home? And the junk email you get? Impressions are how many times your tweet or post or pin or youtube has been delivered to a feed, including list feeds and hashtag feeds. Impressions have nothing to do with people actually seeing your tweet (or pin or blog post in a search or youtube), especially when you think about all the junk or bot or dead accounts that follow you. Still, it's fun to think the possibility is there. In fact, the more popular the hashtags or tag words or links you make in the text, the more often what you posted gets picked up by bots for impressions. How you hook the bots is key to putting yourself 'out there' for the possibility of being seen more. THAT is why impressions analytics are useful, you can use them to gauge how well you are being picked up and distributed.

Let's play with this a little bit. According to twitter analytics, these (below) are the top tweets in each of these months. Keep in mind what I said about impressions. For instance, this first one was retweeted by one of the top NFL parody accounts, and even though it wasn't shared or responded to very much at all, it was distributed from that retweet through a whole slew of feeds I generally don't have access to. Even then, it didn't get anywhere near my favstar top tweets. Favstar is a much more reliable source for actual performance, and I even pay for pro because I find it so useful. But back to mocking twitter analytics.

Nov 2014
This was the week Leonard Nimoy died, and this probably remained much more private in a single list feed of friends than nearly 7000 people actually seeing it. You can see I didn't hashtag or even mention his name, but being convo-linked, it must have gotten caught up in the flurry of redistribution just by association. This is where I question how 'real' impressions are, even for feed distribution.

Feb 2015

The Walking Dead hashtag is pretty good for being flung by bots into more feeds, but that show is so saturated with a plethora of delightfully creative hashtags already that this hardly means a thing.

March 2015
Check these next two tweets, which were obviously actually seen by more people because they got more real response, thanks to Mr. Potts retweeting them. Andrew Lee Potts gives good tweet if you're cool about promoting his stuff.

April 2015
May 2015
This is a surprise. We've barely started June and already I've got this nice reach/response combo, so the impressions might actually mean something here. See the hashtags? MondayBlogs is a big deal and I've gotten some sweet traffic out of it in the past. Still, actual hits on that post at this very point in time is only 67, so I can clearly see that impressions do NOT mean much when it comes to actual link clicking. This is why I mock impressions being a thing. Yes, they are useful for gauging how I'm putting myself out, but they're useless for just about everything else.

June 2015 (so far)

Let's switch gears now. If that weren't enough, there's also such a thing as top media tweet, media meaning graphics of any kind, like pictures, videos, vines, etc., basically a tweet with an attachment. These are big deals because when they go viral the numbers go crazy. I've never reached a crazy point, but I admire some who have, although it's difficult to admire users who have figured out how to swipe the responses by coopting with the 'quote' option, which knocks you into the 'mentions' category of analytics. Since places like Ana Tweets don't count being quoted in their top mentions, your best actual response can still be completely missed or glossed over, so there is a bit of outcry about quoting being a form of cheating in order to steal response off other people's tweets. I actually view being quoted and my response being 'stolen' as a compliment, it means my tweets are worth something to other people. You won't see that in analytics.

But back to twitter analytics. Top media tweets are useful for perking up your timeline. If you're depressed about having a slow response day (because you're a real person and don't buy followers or have a ton of bots following you), just toss out a couple of cute pix and voila, someone retweets or likes, so you know your feed hasn't turned your entire reader base into zombies. Want to see what your readers respond to? Media tweets are a quick and fun way to experiment.

This one really was an experiment, everything about this tweet is so rare that pretty much the only way it got noticed was by fans who look for these things and this actor in particular.

Nov 2014

This is my most 'impressive' I think (ha, pun), because without a single hashtag I got this many impressions from a group of people who use a list feed to stay in touch. This speaks volumes for that list feed distribution.

Feb 2015
It helps to be live tweeting with a television show if you're looking for a way to be seen by more actual real users as opposed to twitter bots. Reading live hashtag feeds are the new 'reality show' of the internet.

March 2015
Tagging relevant accounts (we all hope for retweets) when we promote others usually helps jack the numbers a little, and always try to squeeze a hashtag in there somewhere. Being more specific would have been better, but I ran out of room. The #scifi hashtag is so vague that I'm sure this tweet was buried very quickly in that hashtag feed. I think I pushed the same media/link later with hashtags like #spaceship, but this one got top tweet since it was retweeted by the show creators and one of the actors.

April 2015
See what I mean, rev up a slow day with an oldie but a goodie.

May 2015
We've all seen people who get tons of retweets every day, and we wonder how that's happening, since they don't seem to be doing anything else but tweeting. Some get lucky, but a lot of it is either about turning networking into a game, or paying money for upgrades, promos, and followers. My twitter account is 'organic', meaning that most of my followers are real people (even the parody accounts) and I don't play the follow back game. I grew my twitter from scratch mostly on my own work and I really don't care about numbers. If I did I'd have over 4000 followers by now, but I keep banishing and purging.

Numbers are fun, but as I keep asking, do they really mean anything? Some of my best days have the lowest numbers attached to them. Why do I call them my best days? Because an actor or film maker or private club might have DMd or PMd me. Because I might've had a really cool private convo with someone. Because I might have noticed half the world hit a particular blog one day out of the blue and realized someone linked me somewhere, which is a nice compliment. Because I might've discovered someone hacked one of my youtube chicken videos into an Asian porn site and laughed my head off. Because I might have accidentally run into someone saying really cool stuff about something of mine that they took the time to translate into another language.

Slow days are good days. I don't have to see what's happening in analytics to know how I'm doing. It's fun, yes. It's good brain exercise to think about strategy, and good practice doing experiments, but don't let analytics be your 'report card'. What an auto-bot algorithm might tell you is your best work might actually be about the stupidest waste of time you ever did, and it's easy to feel disappointed that something we thought was more important didn't even make the bottom of a count list. Don't fall for that.

I see tons of advice floating around on how to build your media presence, blah blah blah, but in my experience, all you have to do is create a unique name or phrase and then attach it to hashtags, pictures, and links of all kinds, and then you pop up in all kinds of searches. Sheer numbers that never get measured are how many times pictures in search engines will click to something you created. The easiest way to get noticed is with variety. Tweeting or blogging the same thing over and over doesn't build web presence.

I'm afraid there are only two ways to get big numbers- with big money or big work, which includes persistence. They say do what you love, right? If you don't love doing what it takes to get the numbers, why are you worried about the numbers? Actors work very hard to get where they are. Film crews work very hard and sometimes dig deep into their own pockets to get where they are. It's not magic. You want to be a success? Either shell out the dough or work hard. Preferably both.
