my point of view, such as it is

CAUTION- Graphic content.
Strong warning on triggers for rape and violence.

I know y'all know I strongly discourage comments because I'm weird and you're all cool to never comment even though that's an option, but this post has comments turned off. This is the first time I've ever put all this together in one place with real names and searchable linked content. I'm still not capable of getting through convo about this event, but at least we'll all know now where my head is sometimes.

Three years ago on pinky blog I started blogging through a daily depression trail that starts every April first through my entire adult life. I started questioning why, and you guys watched me uncover and start dealing with a repressed memory. Today is the first day I put together the bits and pieces and deal 'out loud' with what happened.

This is Julie Ann Jackson. She lived on 816 N. Watson Ave. when I knew her in school. She was my best friend from the fifth grade. Her hair was naturally golden, and she was slightly chubby in a very pretty way. I considered her my only real friend (because that's what aspienado does, one real friend at a time) even though she was very popular and had lots of friends.

Aside from biting my hand when we were ten because I was being so bossy that she had to find a way to make me shut up, she was always kind to me, and every time I showed up near her, all her other friends moved over. I never thought about why, but I knew that was my place. I know now that she knew I was different (I'm autism spectrum), and she elevated me to an intellectual status dismissed by everyone else, including my family. I was the only one in school that could keep up with her on all kinds of testing and reading material, although I never bested her at anything. She was one of those true MENSA types with a very easy personality, and she spent time not only including me, but teaching me how to draw horses and taking turns writing stories that we passed back and forth in classes. We attended all the sports events together, and the only times we were apart was for being in different classes or activities. Because of her, I actually had other friends in my life that I probably wouldn't have had without her.

My family moved to another state right in the middle of the ninth grade. I've written about how hard that was, the day I left I didn't even get to say goodbye. Thankfully, Julie loved snail mail, and we sent off letters to each other 3 times a week like clockwork for at least four years. I did get to go back the summer after graduation and visit, and she gave me the royal treatment. I was family to her. She escorted me around showing me off, took me to her house, drove me around talking about college and friends she had and her boyfriend. I was as out of the water as a Vulcan fish with my Asperger's, for those of you who know Spock history, but that didn't phase her in the least, and I let her do all the talking and leading me around while I just soaked her in. She had grown up while I was gone, and she was beautiful and charming and didn't miss a beat. After I went back home we continued writing to each other as she started college and my family moved again. I had a big box full of all her letters the night I got the phone call.

I've written in several places what that night was like, but I'll keep it simple here. Emotionally I almost instantly went into hard shutdown. For those of you who've never experienced that or know anyone who has, I very literally chopped off my emotions right then and there. I didn't cry. I didn't feel. I didn't talk about it. I hung up the phone, ignored everyone, and went back to bed. The next day I took the box full of letters outside and burned the entire thing without a second thought. I didn't feel anything doing it. I didn't reflect. I didn't have a reason.

Nearly everything that happened over the next several years was the result of that hard shutdown. I went through a bad marriage and became an alcoholic. I wound up in a big city underground of drug dealers. I met people completely off the grid doing despicable things, and I talked to people who witnessed or lived through atrocities that would make most people very sick. I didn't blink an eye.

After I stopped drinking I started turning my life around, went to college, remarried, raised kids, had jobs, met people on the internet and finally started having 'friends', although much of it went badly very quickly. I never questioned that until one particular friend stopped talking to me, and without warning I spiraled into an abyss of despair that lasted for months. I felt so desperate to understand why this was happening and why I couldn't keep friends that I started seeing a psychologist, and have spent years learning how to see myself objectively, how to assess and make goals and plans to reach my goals, and how to deal with feelings. I'm not just autism spectrum. I have a complicated diagnosis that includes delayed response, which means I just don't deal with my emotions.

So by 2015 I'd been working on all that with my psychologist for eight years. I still didn't know what the real reason was for that particular depression in April, and I didn't yet realize I had displaced it onto the friend I lost that woke me up out of that hard emotional shutdown. Somewhere in 2015, one of my sisters delicately brought up my friend's murder, saying they'd been afraid to tell me it was showing up on the internet, and she was right, I was absolutely terrified to click around and find that pain. I started going through a series of little shutdowns over and over between 'waking up' to more and more ability to feel in real time, and I guess all the stuff I should have processed through years ago started processing, and believe me, putting off dealing until later doesn't make it any easier. When I finally started remembering and as I was slowly able to start reading about this very famous case, all the feelings and emotions swept over me as fresh as they should have from the very start. I was making up for 30 years of lost time processing through all those emotions.

In case you'd like to know more you can -click this- and read an article of interviews with the medical staff who saved Colleen, the person who survived. Here is a good quote from one of the nurses.
One of the nurses in that operating room called me to say Guzman's crime was as vivid to her today as it was 30 years ago. "I remember every detail, because it was so horrific," she said. Doctors and nurses spent nearly 12 hours trying to save Bush's life, and that nurse said the experience taught her about strength and fight and survival. "It changed my life," she told me. "I made a decision that night that if anything like that ever happens to me, I'll fight to the end."

The official true crime book Escaping the Arroyo (which I have not yet had the muster to read), has a Facebook Page, and you can find author info on Amazon and her dotcom.

This crime story was also featured on Investigation Discovery. I still can't bring myself to watch that.

Here comes the graphic part. This is the part I live with in my head now that I've put nearly all of my pieces together.

This last week was Julie Jackson's death anniversary. On April 5th I kept triggering into a memory of my dad and a sheep. You see, I've seen a living body stabbed. I'm about to tell you a story about saving a sheep's life, and after that I'm going to get really rough. I'm making sure you really want to be here reading this... It's ok to stop if you want.

When I was around ten or twelve I think, making my next sister down about 8-10 and my brother 5-7, Dad found a sheep loose in the alfalfa field. Sheep will gorge to death sometimes, but my dad was able to force her out of the field and up a little hill before she flopped over gasping for breath. He ran to the house, called us kids to follow him right now, and as we arrived was already commanding us where to sit on different parts of that sheep, to hold her down at all cost, don't let her move at all, and we obeyed immediately because we had been taught like that. As soon as we got square on pinning that sheep down (who, incidentally, wasn't moving much at all because she couldn't), Dad whipped out his big knife and plunged it into her belly, then dropped the knife and pulled the wool apart on both sides of that big hole and barely got his eyes shut before he was sprayed all over with the vilest smelling stomach spew you ever saw. He never once let go of keeping that wound open while us kids were instantly working very hard to keep that sheep down in one spot, because naturally every instinct in her body would be to fight whatever punctured her.

After that was over, which didn't take long, we were almost too cramped to stand up because we'd locked her down so hard, and Dad was just nasty. The sheep got up, shook off like a dog, and trotted off, feeling much better. We had to hose Dad off, and we didn't get an explanation until that stuff was off his face so he could talk.

It's not very often you see someone stab something out of the blue, and it's probably even more rare to see children help hold a living being down to be stabbed. We didn't whine or cry or question. Our dad could do anything in our eyes back then, and even if we didn't like doing what we were told, we did trust him to know exactly what he was doing.

And that is leading to this. (I know, you're thinking that wasn't graphic, but if you get queasy or cry easily, you do need to leave now.)

I grew up helping butcher sheep. I know how to hold a very heavy body down, how to drain its blood with a little nick, and how to keep it from automatically thrashing while the blood drains out. This is very important if you don't want the meat bruised up and you want all the blood out. Blood will spoil much faster than the carcass and must be gotten out so that the meat doesn't spoil if it has to sit.

Since I sat on sheep and helped skin them from childhood, I know what blood smells and feels like, I know how heavy dead body parts feel (especially the head), I intimately know how bodies feel while they are dying with all the tiny little muscles twitching for awhile, all the jerks and gasps and groans. All these things are automatic reflexes a dying body does, desperate for oxygen, working hard trying to increase blood flow. When the brain is still alive and the body is dying, the nervous system comes on full blast trying to stay alive.

Imagine what it must feel like to be raping someone while you feel all that happening in the other body against you. Imagine being able to smell the blood gushing out all over you while you keep stabbing. And it's not just blood. What we see on TV shows and in movies is so clean compared to real crime. Being stabbed in different places pops open different kinds of fluids along with the blood. Imagine smelling bilious stomach contents while raping someone. Imagine smelling intestinal content, being slimed with it and blood while you're raping someone. Imagine the jerks and gasps and groans going on all over the body while the eyes roll grotesquely around, all the smells and sounds and all that slime...

Imagine being all done and staggering back to the open the trunk of the car to start over on the next person. Imagine finally being satiated and driving off, thinking no one would ever find your mess out in the desert like that. Imagine someone actually living through being stabbed 30 times and crawling up the side of an arroyo to a highway. I grew up in the desert southwest. I can imagine a bloody slimy body being caked with dirt and grime and full of weeds and ants by the time it got to a highway, and I can imagine how terrifying that would look to someone stopping at the sight. And that was before cell phones. All that time that passed. All the grit and work and waiting it took to LIVE. And hours and hours of repair with a medical team. All that recovery. And then living with the memories the rest of your life.

I emotionally shut down when I got a phone call in the middle of the night. I never thought about any of that because I just couldn't go there. I had already grown up with so much experience with death, with seeing and smelling and hearing and feeling death.

So all week long in my head, I have been there with my best friend. I have been feeling her body being violently punctured, I have been smelling her life fall apart into slime all over a nasty person's raging body, I have been hearing the squashed grunts and gasps and wheezes, and feeling every muscle strand in her body straining for oxygen as her blood drained out, the muffled frenzied thrashing being held down for the rape as her consciousness slipped away.

I cannot stop crying.

Friends, when I give you a heads up that it's a bad week and beg you not to take me personally if I fail, please understand hell is filling up my head, and I can barely hear or see you over the pain I am in.

Here are all my posts with the tag #sadness.

I have to run out the door. If there are typos I'll fix them later.

pink spider pig!

(not paid to link any of that on Pinky blog)
My youtube viewer history went off the rails this week, so I'm slapping myself silly again. I think my very favorite thing in this highly promiscuous and NSFW 'pink slap meme' search are those really long toes with the pink toenails.

And I just realized that by word association half of you probably thought that my youtube viewer history going off the rails meant in a promiscuous way, so let me make you sick and really sick. Not promoting, just sharing the nauseated feeling. I tend to rocket off into the abyss like I'm skipping down a carnival strip when life plunges into dark and sucky, and I cannot say anything right now that doesn't sound smutty, so consider it another innocent jaunt into closeyoureyes land.

It's ok, though, I found pink spiderpig.

And of course that roofied me right out of Sadland into crazy and I'm good now.

I had to eat that cake off the ground

This screenshot is from the Mo Creatures server, so it clicks back to the website.
This week got pretty rough, so by Wednesday I gave myself the rest of the week off. I was bummed out not knowing what to do with the dive into sad, so I told admin it was a rough week and suddenly found myself being invisibly caked up and fireworks going off all around me, which helped lift my mood up a bit because it was such a funny surprise. After that I hung out with staff going all pyro watching a build copy burn. It felt right.

After that I played around creating single player worlds with forge and the Mo Creatures mod pack. I super cranked up the ores.

And then I took my cue from Bunny, just started spawning colorful things like birds

and butterflies.

That helped, too. And then I spent Thursday on the server mining out the rest of a pit down to bedrock

A lawyer showed up to check on my XP grinder, citing reckless containment of dangerous fugitives.
and killing a bunch of mobs, which also felt good. This guy lost his cowboy hat.

In between times I went on youtube binges, some good, some bad. Started with the usual Space Cowboy, wandered into #bencongruity, and next thing you know I'm bouncing back and forth from weird stuff to 80s oldies but it kept me distracted pretty well. If you're having one of those days, here you go, part of my vid trail. If you trigger easily or don't care for Benny C, you might wanna skip some of these. Let this first one be a warning to you.

I blame this one for triggering the 80s mood.

And next thing you know, there I went. This actually is a pretty good video.

I will be a Corey fan till the day I die. He is braver than anyone I've ever seen in Hollywood.

A lot of 80s music looks so experimental now in highsight. The whole MTV thing.

I mean, you gotta laugh, but seriously. I look back and see how staged all our music genres have been. Planned.

And now we literally have a decade of movies spelling all the stuff out for us. This movie alone completely normalized the entire thing without anyone raising a single eyebrow, not to mention completely screwed google search for certain phrases and word combos. Like magic... Still, makes for super awesome fanvid material. (And that's the point, isn't it? Ben caught you.) Ironically, the official official website of the real real people went live on the cusp of this movie. Everyone seemed to miss that timing.

This wasn't creepy at all. O_O The helicopter shot of those buildings, though. After seeing this, I'm laughing that the rest of the world kept trying to say 'conspiracy'. That's as real as it gets.

Took a little break and laughed. (But you know how I feel.)
Things you only notice about Harry Potter as an adult

I'll just shut up now

before I wind back up in humans as products.

Because depending on who wins, one day we'll be able to buy this kind of stuff, where we want to recreate our lives, hand ourselves over to be 'fixed', and turned loose to feel better without having to think about what happened to us and what was required. If it beats depression, who cares, right? I'm betting it won't be that long till people line up for the brain chips. (In case you need a quick diversion before you go on, I used to talk a bit more about that kind of stuff.)
The first human brain-to-brain interface has been created. In the future, will we all be linked telepathically?

Well, here's what I think.

death days

I wrote this about a year and a half ago. That pretty much covers how stupid dealing on a death week can be. And that didn't even touch the years afterward, going through that over and over.

Tomorrow is a different death day. Again, the people immediately around me have no idea what's in my head, heart, and soul, and I'm lost how to keep processing the incongruity of living with loss and how it affects my relationships with the people I'm still with in real life.

Some people don't get it. Some people do. Some people are born seeing all this stuff. Some aren't. I don't talk a lot, but the people who can't get me to shut up probably think I'm just crazy. Like I mentioned in the first link, I won't be apologizing when it comes time. I don't think we stop when our bodies are done, and I think what we're doing here is more important than we can imagine. Why else would death feel like the most important thing in this world, and everything we are centered around it.

Woke up from one of those very long tangled dreams to Barry Manilow singing a new Christmas song about superheroes, and thinking ok, that lisp of his is getting way worse...

I was at a friend's house up the road after not visiting for a very long time. For some reason, I needed to use her shower, and only very briefly saw her to ask, because she had to rush off, but handed me a folded note. I didn't open the note right away, just wanted to get that quick shower and go home, because it's always weird taking a shower in someone else's house.

By the time I got upstairs, the house had grown a bit bigger, added rooms, appointed details, and naturally I had to slow down and think Wow, she always did love her house. I made it in the upstairs bathroom, but for some reason I had to go back downstairs and outside real quick. I don't remember why now, but this happened over and over and over umpteen times, and each time going back into her house, the house kept getting bigger, more people kept showing up, until the entire building was nearly as big as a small shopping center, and every bit of it was still her glorious house, decked for holidays and people everywhere.

She wasn't the sort to have loads of guests, but very quietly the genteel artist type who loved Americana and flowers and the good life, excellent with complex recipes and always a picturesque purebred dog by her side. I didn't think about any of that in the dream, which would have thrown it all off. None of it seemed out of place at all. Everything that kept adding on an becoming more detailed and thronging with more people seemed right. It felt like exactly the kind of holiday party she might love if she had been born a very wealthy person. It had her spin on it.

I don't know how many times I made it back upstairs to that bathroom, which also kept getting bigger and more elaborate, but I finally opened the note. The topside was typed, and I don't remember much of what it said, but it was to me from her. Then I realized the underside was handwritten in felt tip pen, and oh no, the bathroom was damp (the shower was steaming it up), and a lot of it was running onto my hands and my clothes. Most the words were on me by the time I tried to decipher it, and the harder I tried to read it, the more it faded until it was gone.

I realized about then that I was in my shabbiest jeans about to get a shower, and there were dozens of people arriving all around for the start of the party, all dressed up from where they came, like one big family had just come from a ski slope and were all laughing and red from the cold and in matching sweaters, and another family had just come from a big church service and were still all dressed up and looking for the wine cellar (I don't recall her having wine around either in real life or the dream), and many other groups, and I thought Wow, she has a LOT of people connected to her. She'd always seemed so quietly reclusive to me, but I imagine I saw only a glimpse even though she was right up the street.

So I left the bathroom again, intent on going home to get better clothes, but it was too late, the party was starting, Barry Manilow was singing, and I woke up.

My very first thought this morning was maybe she had died and that was one of my heaven dreams, so I did quick recon and she hasn't, whew (although now I'm hoping there isn't something else). Yes, even though she moved far away a long time ago, I know where she is, what her house looks like, and a tiny little bit of how she's doing. I don't deep lurk very often, but a handful of people have never left the back of my mind, so once or twice a year I check on them.

So, psyche analyze this dream. Barry Manilow singing a Christmas song about superheroes. A friend's house growing very big and luxurious. Me trying to get a shower and being embarrassed about my shabby clothes. A note I couldn't read.

I have lately (this past year) become a bit self aware of how public I am. It feels awkward, and even though I'm not bothered by it most of the time (in my aspienado mind I'm just an avatar living a story), I've been feeling a little bit shy for possibly the first time in my entire life (I'm diagnosed with a mild to moderate level of narcissism, thankfully not dinging the psychotic bell or anything, but this is thanks to the childhood I survived as I've pointed out on facebook, you can find tests online to see how you rank, as well).

Ok, that was a stretched out overly-inserted paragraph. I'll just daintily step away from it instead of trying to fix it and move on.

I don't know yet how I feel about being aware of feeling sorta shy. It's not the kind of shy that people automatically think of as shy. I'm not afraid of anyone seeing me. I think it's more like I'm shy of seeing myself. I'm shy realizing I'm in this role I'm playing out. I'm cognizant of being ME.

When I was a child, I'd have very disturbing moments, almost out of body experiences, about being a skeleton walking around, about living in a skull, about my arm not being 'me', about my legs feeling like doll legs that I moving around from the inside. I know now that is a dissociative disorder. Not feeling in the moment, running all the incoming through filters, losing track of time (quite badly sometimes), and delayed emotional response most of the time come from this dissociated thing. I am often walking beside myself, following behind myself, distracted away from myself, coming back to myself. I am often not in the moment.

I love that I had that curious dream at the very start of 2018. I love that I have another mystery to solve about myself. What was in the note? I already know why Barry Manilow. My best friend that was murdered later gave me her double best of Barry albums before I moved away when I was 14. Christmas over the last ten years has very much become about superheroes, we are inundated with merch and entertainment on all sides. The beautiful house growing larger and more detailed was actually all in my head. More and more people arriving is me connecting, while I hide out in a bathroom. Click that. It's very pertinent. As for the shower part, that's baptismal, like washing off the old and putting on the new. Cleaning off. Refreshing ourselves. Maybe it's time I faced this.

I've still never reconnected to that friend. I've not reconnected to a lot of people in my past, but that particular friend had a very strong impact on me. You guys know how I feel like I'm walking through people's minds when I find their artwork somewhere. She takes photographs. I've seen all the public ones. If she reads my blogs at all, and I know she did in the past, then maybe she'll find this post and feel a little hug in her mind. I wasn't able to be what she needed when she was here, but I understand now. And that is the way our lives work, isn't it?

She was one of the very rare few who knew me in real life.

:edit: nearly 6 hours later- I burned 4 1/2 years' worth of correspondence between my best friend from school and I after I heard she was murdered. Clearly that is a horrible regret I live with, the note I can never seem to read in so many of my dreams. THIS TIME- the. words. got. all. over. me. That just screamed through my brain just now. The words are IN ME. I was handed a note and the words got all over me.

I'm not in the mood for a psychotic break right now, so I'm going with this is all normal and it's cool because I'm going to write a whole bunch of words this year that are totally going to vindicate that sad ritualistic grief burn.

Pinkyween commences

Trigger caution, graphic violence.

Random search surfing around youtube and this caught my eye. "Somebody once challenged me to make a Heroes music video to a song by Britney Spears and still make it seem badass." I had to watch it immediately.

And from there it was me and the headphones while Bunny tortured Papa after he got home from work.

I have missed so much live tweeting this year. I'm so torn.

I'm even regretting saying I was tired of so much TV last year.

Sorrynotsorry.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now it's later. Still wired on the pred, everyone else is in bed. It's so weird being pred-jacked during a crash off a long euphoric ep, even though it was semi-controlled.
Tomorrow is the big day.
I've had 8 years to think that all through. I've spent 8 years working on becoming more emotionally healthy and regaining back some of what I lost sinking into physical disability. I have worked very, very hard on not being selfish and being present in the moment for the people I love around me. I can honestly say I'm no longer hateful, but I have to honestly admit I'm still very angry, and I don't foresee ever not crashing through so many painful memories every time the first week of October rolls around.
I am quite jealous of people my age who still have both their parents. I feel very sad for people I know who lost both parents already at a younger age than I did. I can't imagine either scenario. All I can feel is jealousy, sadness, pain, and all kinds of anger.
Two years ago I wrote interpretations. My mom had absolutely no moral support raising an autism spectrum child in the middle of so much other stuff that she was dealing with. I am finally old and wise enough to see all that from the eyes of a peer instead of a child. I feel so bad for her sometimes looking back that I can't stand it, and I hide that I cry, like she used to hide that she cried. I can't go back and fix all the misunderstandings, and even if I could try, I would probably make it all worse somehow.
I spent most of my life in hard shutdown because I was very strictly not allowed to have meltdowns without what some people would now consider fairly severe consequences. I've spent the last ten years talking to a psychologist untangling so much mess, and that is very seriously only the tip of a very big iceberg.
If there is anything I can say to parents of autism spectrum kids, of any neuroatypical kids, it's please just love them. I've seen people treat dogs better than they treat their own children, and it breaks my heart. I've seen people treat strangers more kindly than they treat their children, and it shreds me. To judge anyone for something they cannot help, never asked for, and don't yet have the capacity to deal with is really harsh, especially when it turns into corporal punishment and very mean faces and words. Children on autism spectrum, especially, can be notorious for retaining hardcore highly detailed memory recordings for decades, and the behavior you exhibit might be either replayed or spelled out years later.
I'll be spelling mine out. I won't be doing it to be mean, but to be kind. Sometimes it's important to see how ugly something gets in order to veer away from it in future. And, honestly, I'm older now than a lot of the autism parents out there freaking out, and they really do need to know that giving birth to 'broken' children isn't the end of the world. We're all broken. Anyone who can punish a small child without any rescue or defense for simply being broken is broken themselves.
My mom was very broken, and I want to go back in time and scoop her up as a tiny child and rescue her. I'm very sad she never got to see me arrive to this point. One day I'll share a picture of her looking so sad as a small child that everyone will wonder what happened, and then the smiles in all the rest of the pictures after that will look different.
I drown in empathy. Don't let anyone ever tell you auties have no empathy. I had to turn mine off and get mean and cold to survive, but all the soft sad stuff is very intact and the recordings are all still there. I wasn't even five years old when I asked my mom why she was sad, and she never allowed me to ask her that again and never talked about it. Imagine what must have gone on inside of her to stuff that back in so hard and never let anyone see it. We saw her anger, yes. I've come to realize it was a privilege to see her sad. Not depressed, not fearful, not anxious, but sad. Why was it so important to hide the sad?
Dear autism parents- You have my full support. I was a difficult child, and once I realized I had power, I sometimes made it more difficult for my emotionally weak mother to function. We were quite a pair. I sabotaged her in very subtle ways, and she crumbled and did some very mean things back to me. By the time I was in high school our relationship was so broken that we never recovered from living without that parent/child bond. I felt unforgiven and she felt hated, because she didn't forgive me and I hated her.
Stuff like that is really simple to fix once you realize that's what's going on.
What would you be willing to write if you thought it might save someone's life?
To carry another's pain
On top of my own heart sprain
Isn't so easy
When fun and breezy
Is what I'm told to feign
Playing a game that's not fair
Is a difficult burden to bear
When one is hiding
That worlds are colliding
And hanging on hope and a prayer
Imagine a soul nearly rent
Being the one who is sent
To hold up another
Who won't even bother
To get their own life unbent
Honesty is who I am
Faith is the heart of my plan
I must do what fate calls
Or I'll fail at my clause
And die curled up in my own damn
A dragon is born to set fires
And leaves behind funeral pyres
It can't be a pet
To assuage a fret
Because soon it comes bursting
From terrible thirsting
For knowledge beyond
And a heart that is fond
Of consuming philosophical briars.
I've cried for the last two days. Because dragons do cry.
Some people can sit back and let the world wash over and cry to the stars that life hurts. Others tear open the dungeons that keep our souls from seeing the blazing sun all around us.
Perspective. Or, if you prefer, the allegory of the cave.
the invisible forgotten
Here come the holidays, and here come the reminders about remembering military not being able to be home for Thanksgiving, the vets not being taken care of, the homeless and orphaned who don't even have homes, refugees... It's good to remember them.
There are others we aren't reminded to remember. Quite a lot of people are simply stuck at home. Or in nursing homes or some other kind of care. These people rarely get out and we almost never see them unless someone helps them get out.
For people who are stuck, sometimes the internet is how they survive, how they still feel like they are part of the human race. These people live vicariously through other people enjoying activities, fussing about problems, sharing pictures, whining about bad days, and generally chattering about their lives.
For many people, the real downer on holidays is those who have things and those who can get out and those who remind the rest to remember failing to live up to actually being thoughtful. Being thoughtful on the internet means not pointing out other people's flaws, not mocking other people's personal problems, not demanding retribution right and left for other people's behaviors with long arguments about who is right and who is wrong.
Kindness is a thing. People who think they are nice people are not always kind, and the internet tends to spotlight that kind of dichotomy.
Some of us have major fail going on in our lives, and if you really are a nice person, please remember to be kind. I say us- I'm still just coming out of my own stuff. Some of you have watched that. You've been watching me hang on, and I've been so fortunate to have friends who keep checking in on me. Not everyone has that, and so many drop back off the radar.
Please be kind. Pinky is asking everyone who reads this to remember some of us are going through holidays very alone, very sad, and a bit shy about trusting others to be kind. If you need more from me about dealing with the hard stuff, here is a quick index to my stuff across the webs, and here is the Pinky stuff.
World Mental Health Millennium
Pinky blog is a cover for a lurker deluxe, a shadow in the dark. You guys have seen me work on putting my own puzzle back together in public posts, and I appreciate the respect that goes into staying back from the temptations to snark bomb my comments, or worse. The history I have with some of my lurkers is heavily tenuous, if I may wring a visual out of an uncommon word pairing.
Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. I've mentioned a few times being around the block with blogging, saying I've seen it all. I've also said a few times that blogging saves lives. But I don't really say more than that, do I? Pinky blog is for my stuff, not other people's stuff.
However, part of my stuff, part of what has helped create who I've become, is other people's stuff. I've privately logged many hours in the past with a number of people who blogged about their stuff, mostly privately to friends-only. What I'm about to share is a delicate summary of some of the long, haunted nights I've been privy to with other people on protected (partially private) blogs.
Each of these sentences represents a summary of someone else's dark journey, and these are all different people who didn't know each other. It is by no means an exhaustive list. I will never forget these people.
I drank a whole bottle of benadryl last night. -teenage boy with terminal illness desperate for distraction.
I lost custody of my kids because I can't stop cutting. -mid 30s woman with severe depression.
I got this recipe from (***) and it's loaded with calories. -young medically anorectic 20s female with terminal illness.
I had to leave my psychotic mother before I was legal age and get my own apartment and a job. -young lady on double lung transplant list.
I've been stuck in a bed on IVs for so long that I'm losing hope. -middle aged woman with cancer.
I really like knives, is something wrong with me? -teenage girl with the most beautifully twisted dark goth blog I've ever seen.
I hate everything about myself because my stepdad raped me since I was 13 and my mom didn't do anything about it. -girl in her late teens trying to get a job so she could leave home.
I'm afraid to go to sleep for months and can't see myself coming back from the next hospital trip -a young lady with a terminal illness who died a couple of weeks later in a hospital.
I hate Christians and everything about them. -young man after leaving his parents.
My parents secretly performed 3 basement abortions on me and I'm so scarred up I can never have children. -mid-20s woman working on a counseling certification.
I'm so desperate for answers that I'll go to great lengths experimenting on myself and learning everything medically and scientifically related to every little thing that goes into my body. -middle-aged woman living with years of chronic illness and infection.
I know God will heal me if I just have enough faith. -woman who vanished from the internet and likely committed suicide.
I know the military is watching everything I do and just waiting for me to slip up. -military personnel hiding a schizophrenia diagnosis.
My wife hasn't let me touch her for years except to give her a massage, and I like to wear my jeans loose around my hips. -older man grappling with his mother raising him as a little girl, likely due to birth defect or botched circumcision.
One of the reasons I keep telling you guys that you are not alone is because you're not. One of the reasons you feel alone is because those around you are either inexperienced and don't know how to see what you're saying or really talk to you about it, or because they have already been through so much themselves that they can't carry someone else's emotional load, or because they are in place where they must emotionally withdraw for a little while and recharge themselves. Please never take it personally if someone doesn't emotionally respond appropriately to the mixed and cryptic messages you are sharing. Just keep trying. There are loads of people on this earth, and internet makes finding someone who understands a lot easier and faster than the old days.
My core belief that I have developed from seeing all these things is that we need to share our stories so others can see they're not alone. It's not about trying to get attention or empathy or validation when someone is just whistling out loud in the dark. We must become the teachers allowing the inexperienced to learn on us if the world is to heal. In a world of block and mute buttons, it's becoming easier to share who we are in real time, and others can come and go as they wish without pressure to respond. Lurking through other people's living thoughts is better than hanging out at a library. Humans on the internet are becoming a living library.
Blogging helps. I have gotten through so many bad days knowing even just one other person would read my stuff. Simply just sharing your stupid bad day and how you got through it might actually save someone else's life. You might never know that a lurker in the dark found the thoughts you wrote down and made a decision to keep hanging in there because you did.
Sometimes I say "I love you guys". If we could see other people with the same empathy we have seeing abandoned, neglected, and abused pets, who knows how the world could change. I see the pain and sadness in the dark when I lurk around, and I just want to say I love you guys, so I keep blogging.
I know I beg off personal interaction nowadays with aspie's so aspie and talking about the saturation level I've been through in my own life. It's true, I'm barely capable any more. In the past while I was more private I was able to handle more personal interaction, and I've even been encouraged by other professionals to finish my master's and get my certification in counseling. I've chosen to be a public person and reach as many people as possible. Even when I hit walls, with a blog I can keep sharing my own stuff and help point the way for others.
Mental health is such a stigma. I wish my mom had been able to get more help without others fussing over her fails and poor decisions and not having enough faith, all that crap that strengthens the lie of masking who we really are. I fought the stigma myself for decades with doctors arguing with me over whether I'm a hypochondriac, and whadayaknow, it's all medically validated now. I know what it feels like to be dismissed and blown off and gotten after, even insulted by the people who should have cared the most. I've come through years of anger and the hate that those blow offs inspired and have arrived to the conclusion that I can't live like that, and that my own emotions were killing me. I've further determined that I no longer care who says what any more, and I would even be selfish to keep what I've learned to myself. depression, suicide, and Pinky's revenge
I'm sorry stuff is hard. And it's not a contest, sooner or later it gets really hard for every single one of us in one way or another. You are part of a world family, and all of us are going in the same direction and learning the same things. In the end, we will all be able to say we understand, and part of learning the understanding is walking alone in the dark for a little while. But please don't despair. None of us are ever really and truly alone. Somewhere on this earth someone wants to know your story from your point of view, because they want to know someone else gets exactly what they're going through, or what someone they loved must have gone through.
There are so many ways to share ourselves, from social media to volunteer services, from a variety of art forms to simply hanging out with someone watching TV for awhile. Even if you are the fabled crazy cat person, you are sharing yourself with other living beings.
hybrid- how robots go on
I wrote this last night.
She's right.
I deeply appreciate and respect people who devote their lives to standing up for something extremely difficult to talk about, and not only speak for people who can't yet handle speaking for themselves, but spend swaths of quality time helping them take those first steps out into public view. I've never known why Rachel followed and linked up with me across our medias, but, unlike so many other 'big' people, she never dropped back off as she has grown. She's been amazing to watch.
I'm floating somewhat aimlessly through email alerts full of links while I listen to a song over and over, softly ricocheting around the webs in what seems like haphazard wanderment (that's a real word), and realize when I see Rachel floating by on still another feed page that I've come full circle.
I didn't know what to write. How does a person write the numb. The pain that is so old and still so consuming that it's just part of you now. Part of every cell, every breath for years and years and years.
Because I found this today.
The woman who didn't make it in that story looked like this in school.
One of my top posts this last month has been Force choking hazard. Thank you for that. I know too many, too much.
This is one of those nights I could slip away quietly into the depths of the net and not come back. But I ran into Rachel. And then I remembered other people watch me the way I watch her. We watch because we need someone to say what we can't say ourselves yet. We hide in shadows and watch someone grow bigger than the shadows. We start stepping out because someone else showed us how to step out.
Imagine the world if we all stepped out at once. Maybe that's a thing that's already happening. Maybe #PinkyRobot's revenge will asplode the world the same way I see other people asploding it. I want so badly to blow the world up and change ideas. But a really clever robot goes slowly, moving pieces one by one, getting that pawn across the board through raging wars and bloody battlefields, ducking in and out, waiting and darting, diverting and charging, until the time comes to regain the Queen. And then words can shoot like lasers all over the board, and no one is immune.
I have joked for years about Spock and SpongeBob in the same head.
Survival is always top priority. Never feel guilty for surviving. We do what it takes to survive. That includes self medicating, reclusing, masking, obsessing, and all kinds of other behaviors.
Once you become aware that you are doing behaviors to survive, you are at a good place to make decisions about stepping past those behaviors and recreating yourself. You might be really good at walking a tightrope blindfolded, but you might fall trying to step off the tightrope, so phrases like 'support network' and 'safety net' are something to think about. Make a Plan. You're not alone (not really), and there are all kinds of people who are experienced and trained to help people figure their stuff out. If you don't have family and friend support, you still have professional support.
If you have reached a point where you feel desperate and don't know what to do, all you have to do to get the ball rolling is walk into an ER and say Yes when check in asks if you have thoughts of or want to hurt yourself. It doesn't matter if you're not suicidal or not a self harmer, what matters is that you feel desperate and need help NOW. If you feel desperate and can't even do this much on your own, call 9-1-1 and they will be awesome helping you get there.
If there is no way you'd ever do that, that's cool. Go see your regular doctor and say you'd like a referral to see a mental health specialist. That's how I got my first appointment with my psychologist. I had realized on my own that I have a history of losing friends and that I thought it had something to do with communication problems, and the reason I wanted help was because it had happened again and I was so sad over it that I almost couldn't function. I needed to solve a problem that was gunking up my robot gears. Over several years we have uncovered and solved several problems directly relating to this reason for coming in, and I'm much happier and healthier now, and way more functional. Some of you watched part of this process after I committed to public blogging.
In case you're curious about what happened up there and feel brave enough to learn more, here is more. Please don't talk to me about it. You can see I'm clearly not ok. You already know I'm back in therapy. If you do one thing for Pinky- open your eyes. I understand if you don't want to see this stuff all around you. I even understand if you walk away from someone convincing yourself everything is fine and you didn't just see something bad. But keep your eyes open. Don't take the blue pill and go back under.
Here we learn why April affects me so badly. Remember how I angsted on Pinky blog why April was always so sad for me? You guys watched me go through uncovering a repressed memory. start here for the rerun And then you watched me tie that into another friend who helped me bridge past an emotional wall 8 years ago, and I spent the summer finally dealing with losing that friend, too, although, thankfully, only because her survival mode kicked in and she kind of had to extricate from Pinky going through an existential crisis and deal with her own stuff. I still love her, and I totally get that now.
depression, suicide, and Pinky's revenge
Sometimes I bury a post without tags and never cross post or link it anywhere. This one above is over 4 months old and currently has only 6 views on it, at least 3 of them were probably me on my phone checking for typos and listening to the video while I moved around the house with my phone in my pocket. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to share some stuff yet. That's all it is, a few words and a video, but you can click the pic to go there if you feel the need to.
I'm still not very good at seeing how I write actually communicates into other minds. Yesterday I discovered an error of thought transmission that had me facepalming like crazy, since the error may have been what catapulted that post into the all time most viewed ever for months. Since I don't encourage comments (#aspienado) and I've never gotten feedback on it (I love lurkers), I'm afraid I might have left a wrong impression. I was grind-writing through a particularly glitchy day, forcing my brain to focus, and going back now, it looks like something really different from what I was trying to say.
I'm not a suicidal person. Here is why. Yes, I have been living with fairly severe depression for many years, and yes, I've had some frightening experiences with it. Someone in my family committed suicide years ago, and although I did think about it myself one year, I logically deduced it wouldn't relieve any pain or anguish, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. I think my argument is solid and valid, and so I have stuck it out all this time.
well THAT took a bit of scab ripping to get down to my own honesty
This week has felt like moving through sludge. Today is as thick as cement. Why today? Is there something about today?
2007
So I'm standing in the shower sucking on a cough drop, and I think, Why don't cough drops come in chocolate?  Or coffee flavor?  Why is it always candy/fruit flavors?  I don't eat fruit flavored candy at all, yet I'm stuck with fruit flavored cough drops.
2008
      I TOTALLY got Scott this morning.    Texted him that the roof was leaking over our bed again, giggling like a maniac.  I *knew* he would fall for it!  He called me back about 15 minutes later, how bad is it, geez, I'm gonna hafta crawl up there again, the sheet rock is probably crumbling, etc.  When I told him April Fool, he said You suck!!!!  *heehee*  Poor guy had really been stewing there for a few minutes.
Ah, here it is, still 2008. April tends to be about the worst month out of every year. Yes, this is on April Fool's Day.
Nothing clenches you up for a pap smear like walking through a huge parking lot in the bracing cold wind.
She made me cry.    I'm so tired of feeling awful.  I even took vicodin before I went.  But she thinks I have a pretty bad bladder infection, and says I'm also at the tail end of a self limiting bacterial infection in my uterus, probably came on during the CMV this winter while my immune system was down and I had that thrush and canker sores for a few weeks.  I told her I'd rather not take an antibiotic if she thinks it's pretty much over, since I've had so many med reactions this year.  No sense stirring the pot for more consequences.  I guess we'll see what the lab says about the bladder infection, though.  She had to cath me for that, my first time ever.  I had no idea I was having so much trouble.  I just thought it was part of getting older and my innards 'relaxing' on each other, making it hard to drain my lizard.
Scott cracks up when I say that.    I don't see why mine can't be a lizard, too.  They don't all have to be monster lizards.
2009 Holy cow, it never stops on April Fool's Day. This is one of the surgeries I have managed to avoid.
Ok, back to 'real life' here.  Rough morning driving in, completely thrown out of my usual rut's timing.  Got up at 4 just to help cushion the shock, but still hadn't controlled the pain enough to drive without nearly weaving around the highway from the nauseating pain going down my spine.  I had to start driving around 6:30.
Aside from being offered an extensive list of meds I already know I can't take and physical therapy I know insurance will throw a fit over and won't address or solve my personal medical issues because they have to stick to defined insurance protocols, I have the option of having anesthesia squirted directly into my spine while I'm semi-sedated in radiology, with heavy concerns that 1- I'll have a hyper reaction to it like I do everything else and wind up in lupus flareup or something (this guy said a person like me could react even to needles, I'd never thought of that), or 2- it simply won't last a reasonable enough amount of time to be worth it.  If they add steroid, complications could rise exponentially, and then the next step after that is neuroablation.
"Neuroablation is used as a last resort when other attempts to eliminate pain have failed. It uses heat to destroy nerves that send pain signals to and from the brain. It is used for back pain and referred pain in other parts of the body. It can be permanent, but sometimes the nerves will grow back."
Um, they'd pretty much have to destroy the entire nerve bundle right at the base of my skull...  And that still wouldn't stop the cranial and trigeminal nerves around my skull from throwing migraines at me.
2010 Ah yes, the April I wound up in ER 6 times, 4 by ambulance because severe breathing problems, the other 2 were med complications. Yes, again, this is April Fool's Day. Little did I know the month I was in for.
And now we are having asthma attacks.  Whee.  Moved the HEPA into the livingroom, have already puffed and had benadryl this morning, and if this doesn't calm down soon I'm going to go to the ER, because I'm also on a beta blocker for high blood pressure.  The really fun part is when I can't control the cough and have to run to the bathroom over this stupid stomach thing.
2011 You can imagine this being a much better one by sheer comparison.
I think the blu ray is fried.  Scott dug the book up and thinks he'll have to try something with it, in the meantime I'm stuck with the old dvd player that keeps the picture in a tiny little squashed up square, like the old days.  Better than nothing.  I ~could~ watch a few shows on my laptop, but I'll probably wait till the weekend is over so I can hog the desk and chair.
2012 lol, big problem with stray dogs that year.
 It worked!  heehee Scott was ticked that there would already be dog poop on the deck.
Also, this is where my sox obsession truly started, on an April Fool's day. I've pretty much done a blind pick ever since, something soothing about random chaos. I figured out the key is to get awesomely cool sox in the first place.
Remember my footie thing, where I was going to mix up all my footies into mismatches?  A sort of droll pastime, I thought, for my fun and amusement.  Well, it's not that amusing.  I'm already bored with the hidious clashing of prints and colors.  If I had paired one black with colored stripes with another black with different colored stripes I think I'd have been more satisfied.  But black with colored stripes paired with a white with 60's crazy colored flowers alternates between boringly mental and disgustingly stale.  It's one thing if they had holes and I had to pair them up as losers, it's another to look at them all day knowing I did that on purpose.  So I'm going to start over, let them all pile up in the hamper again and wash them all at once, and re-pair them into better mismates that are easier on the eyes.  But it'll prolly be two or three weeks before that happens.  (Yes, I'm going to force myself through the wearing of them first.  The Sheldon in me insisted I at least follow through the first round of utter ugly randomness.)
2013
Extremely stressful year, private stuff, but the pain level was coming down, yay! It was not a fun April Fool's Day, though. I don't care to share it.
2014 By this time I had stopped blogging privately. I remember struggling all year to reconstruct the way I write about things. No more dump zones.
So, 2015. I have never had such a stress-free April Fool's Day. It's like a huge chunk of dreaded portent has gone missing. I guess I'm so used to hitting April and my life falling apart like I wound up in a disastrously wrong Cube room that I don't know what to do with myself. Or maybe it's something else.
April is also the time of year I start this incredibly lonely reminiscing. I usually never mention this part in any blog, even my most private ones. April is the time of year I watched a friend start spiraling into a severe depression, and after several months of not understanding because super aspie's so terribly, horribly aspie, I was set adrift like a leaf and have felt lost inside ever since.
How can pain still be so unbelievably consuming even 8 years later. Nothing else in my life has so utterly changed me. And I still love her. All this will follow me to the end, every day drenched from the most beautifully tragic year I've ever lived.
She was my rose in a glass globe, and the world we created shattered around us.
She is the secret behind who I've become.
